Hey uh, I may be way out of the loop here, but as I was reading the music section of EW today, I saw a review for the Spinto Band...
Is this the same Spinto that Germy is involved with?
Just curious...
Because I figured it was, but I'm just checking.

I can confirm the review does exist.
And unless there's another Spinto Band from Delaware I do believe it's our guy.
Maaaad props, Germy.

Yeah, that's us, I haven't actually even seen this or knew that it was coming, but my friend told me about it today... Super surprised by this actually, they gave us a B+ too, I'll take it...Which issue is it by the way? My brother gets a subscription, but it wasn't in the latest issue I saw.
PS: There is a review of the album in "Nylon" magazine which I believe is primarily a fashion magazine, but I dunno I haven't seen it.
Also look for a one page article in the August issue of Spin magazine in the "bands to watch" feature, along with an article in Magnet music magazine.
Could anyone scan this article and upload it to GT?

Is this album widely available? If EW is reviewing it, I think you must be able to nuy it somewhere. Maybe just indy boutiques or something but I'm interested in hearing this.
EDIT: I just bought the whole album on iTunes. Way to go Germy, I can't wait to hear it.
Congrats Germy, that's the way you rock it. I believe you guys will go far, and when you do, don't forget about us. :)

BTW, what sort of percent do you get for each record sold? I bought it off iTunes for $10. Do you get $1.5 from each sale or something? How does it work?

Yeah, we just ordered a huge new batch of t-shirts which will be for sale, probably a couple of different designs. We also ordered 500 stickers which will most likely be free or for a minimal donation. We were thinking about buttons, but I'm not sure if we'll have any of those. Hopefully we will have some 7" records and the new Oh Mandy single as well, as those are pretty limited edition items.
And Strangler, I can't really answer your question because I don't even know myself. First off, our record label needs to recoup all the money they spent to put the record out, so they get all the money from the sales up to $20,000 or $40,000, whatever they spent. After that is when it gets split 50/50...But since I'm not a songwriter, I won't get as many "points" on each song as the songwriters do, so how much I see personally is another issue. It's been a complicated process with our label and lawyers and quite frankly money is the last thing that I can even think about...All I know is that we get paid in Bi-annual supplements. Oh, and I know that when we buy the records from the record company for us to sell on the road, we pay them $4 and sell them for $10 so we make $6 each time which is obviously the sweetest deal for us, though places like Borders and other record stores sell the album for $12-$17, so we could be collecting some good money there...I dunno, it's complicated and it's the ugly side of all the business...

If you have buttons I will love you forever. It would go on my jacket and never come off.
Oh and Germy, I noticed a couple advertised on your site that I've never known of before. How could I go about getting my hands on Atlantic and Leave This Home?

Antlantic and Leave This Home are on the 7" record. If you have or can find a record player, I'd reccomend buying one (they are $3 or free when buying a t-shirt and CD)
I hope you can sneak in Acebot! Most shows on the tour are All Ages, but unfortunately L.A couldn't be. That will also be our only headlining show, should be packed and exciting!

Germy, just to let you know I've been listening to the record all day, and I'm loving it. The fact that you sampled sounds from a game of Pong is reason enough to love it, but you even have KAZOOS. And who doesn't love a good kazoo? NO ONE.
I will admit that Trust vs. Mistrust and Spy vs. Spy seemed a little like The Strokes. They were still good but I didn't like them as much as the rest of the album. Your lead singer has an impressive range, though, going from high pitched, angst ridden vocals to almost Lou Reed like monotones. It almost sounds as if its not the same person from song to song (and if its not the same lead singer, I feel like a complete IDIOT right now). Its nice to see a group vary their sound so much from song to song.
So far my favorites are Brown Boxes, Oh Mandy, Direct to Helmet, Mountains and Japan is an Island.

We do have two singers. One singer sings on Brown Boxes, Direct to Helmet, and So Kind Stacy, and the other guy sings on the rest. Thanks for the comments though, it's good to hear opinions from new people all the time.
who sings? nick and...?
I'm one of the biggest fans (see: spinto raster on my wall circa a year ago) and I still don't know.

And you know Germy....We should all (Me, you, Dylflon, Dyne, FissionMailed [assuming he goes]) hang out after the show. Unless you have some sort of self centred groupie gangbang to get to.

CD's should be $10 as well (American dollars please!)
I'm down for hanging out, but I also have friends from my college coming to the show who I am staying with that night, so I have to be really friendly to them as well after the show and all that, but I'm sure there will be time. We also have to start our drive to San Francisco the next day, but it's only 12 hours and we have a day off, so that shouldn't be an issue either.
The groupie gangbangs happen in every city, I can afford to miss one, or you guys can take over for me.

No, Andrew HERRON is going. Not Lawley.
My dad has work the next day, so don't go planning something. I know I'd like to, but we'll just have to see.

Hey, Phil. Does your dad have to drive us? If we go two to a car can we not make it down there ourselves?
Questions to Sam:
Let's say I buy the vinyl record, is there any way you can also get those two extra songs on there to me by computer?
Also, I know you gave me clearance some time ago but I just wanted to make sure you'd still be cool if we used some Spinto music in some of our films.
OH, and there's a really cool interview with Thomas from TSB in Splendid magazine. http://www.splendidmagazine.com/features/spinto/

I can probably get you those songs on the computer, though I don't even have the MP3s myself, so I'd have to work on it...
And yeah, you can go ahead and use the music, I would only not give permission if it was a really huge production that a lot of people would see that we could make money off of. Heh...

I've got another question. Why'd you guys change Atari to Japan is an Island?
I'll still probably call it Atari until the day I die.
I've got a few questions:
1. Who does the vocals on Atari?
2. I'm sorry for this question, but I missed it a long time ago. What instrument does Germanator play?
3.How can I get the CD? You said you could send it to me Germanator, but where to start?

1. I *think* it's Nick that does the vocals. Not sure.
2. Germanator rocks it on the keyboard.
3. You can order it off Amazon. Here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009J4O9A/qid%3D1122231675/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-5224144-0644136)

1. Vocals are sung by Nick and Thomas who co-wrote that song. The title was changed because quite frankly we are tired of that song. Those guys wrote it back in high school, and would rather have it represented by that title instead of something that seems like such an ad-bust...
2. Yes, I play keyboards.
3. I think I remember you saying that you couldn't order off of Amazon because you live in Turkey. This is a bit tricky then. Obviously we would have to do a personal exchange and that gets tricky with international postage and how we get paid for that (could you write a check?) Anyway, PM me about this and maybe we can work it out, but possibly not until the end of summer.

Man that's hot.
Speaking of Thomas, did he regrow his moustache ever again? I loved project moustache and it looks like your promotional photos had his moustache in it. I don't remember him having it very long, after colouring it.
The Germanator
08-02-2005, 04:47 PM
Yeah, that's the funny thing, he only had the colored mustache for about a week, but that also happened to be the time where we took two promotional photos which are being used all around now, so the mustache has certainly stuck around longer than we all thought.
Fun Fact : We did a seperate Spin photo shoot in Brooklyn, NY that took five hours and they spent all this money on equipment and renting vehicles, but they just ended up using our promotional photo that we took on a self-timed digital camera in 10 seconds in a dirty Frat house in New Hampshire, crazy!
