Woohoo! My sister is coming home on April 20 (or around that) from University. And she is bringing home her computer. It is a :
P3, 900 Megs
256 MB RAM
20 Gig HD
19 inch monitor
bunch of speakers
Ummm... I dont know what else. But I cannot wait! I can finally buy some computer games... I'll probably buy Counter Strike because I think that game is the best computer game of all time.

Heh... well now I'm feeling all smug, I'll just use this as an excuse to update my system specs:
P3 1GHz
384 MB RAM
30 GB SCSI hard drive running applications
40 GB IDE hard drive for storing documents (well, mp3's anyway)
nVidia Riva TNT2 (sucks I know, but I don't care)
External v.92 modem (rocks severely - it'll even tell me if someone is trying to call the phone, and will even flash their number up on screen... best of all, it'll let me suspend my internet connection to take the call so I can get back online without dialing in - I had to buy this cos my old modem won't work under Linux)
DVD-ROM
CD-RW
100 MB USB Zip
Dual boot of Windows 2000 and Mandrake Linux 8.2, which rocks by the way

Yeah, I only get this computer until late August... But hopefully my paretns will notice the difference in speed, so they will be like, "oh, we are never going back to that old P1, lets get a P5!"
But I doubt that will ever happen.:(

Well I get free dial-up. Not that crappy Netzero or Juno free net, I get no ads. Its dial-up, but it is free, or at least 50 hours is every month.

What's 420? And why would there be a bomb?

My dialup costs me £15 a month, which is a bit crap, but there's something weird about our telephone exchange which for some reaon means that the only people who do 24/7 access in these parts are BT. Or I could go AOL... but I think not. They also cost £15 a month and are even worse than BT to go with it.
Yeah, dialup sucks, but ADSL and cable just aren't options for me at the moment. Being a student, I have sod all money. ADSL costs about £30 a month plus installation and a new modem, cable costs about £30-40 a month plus installation and a new modem. Oh, and I move out in August anyway, so there's no point.
Once I get a job, I'm gonna get my own place, install a nice fat 2 Mbit ADSL cable, jack it in the back of a Linux box I'll use as my local server and just plug ethernet cables all over the house. Ah yes, then tyhe internet will be mine... I shall be able to download por... I mean, music 24 hours a day!
"Bah! All you poor saps have to pay for an internet connection.. *laughs*"
Well, if I'd gone back into halls I'd have a free share of one of the universities 8 T3 lines, which would have been nice. But living in halls sucks.
Ah well, now I shall return to my fantasies about what computer I am going to build once I have a job... I'm thinking of a dual Athlon at the moment...

Well, I get free internet because my dad works at home, so Compaq pays for a bunch of stuff -- they pay for the internet bill, 1/3 of the electricity bill, which in turn means less my family has to pay on taxes, so it's all good.

Sorry for bringing back this old topic, but today is April 20, and my sister came home! She brought her computer too.
But........ Now my dad is like "oh, no point in going through the hassle of changing computers, we'll just keep the old one connected".
That bastard! Hopefully I can change his mind...

Joeiss, let me welcome you to the club. What Cluyub you ask?
The "This is my life, and I have a lousy father who takes forever for upgrades, and even when he decides to get them he'll delay actually using them club". Kitana can back me on this one but I harased my father every night for an entire year before I got a Decent PC, and I harrassed him for over a year for Braodband Internet acess, don't even get me started on how long it took him to replace our first computer, which could have been built by a Neanderthal.
That old Piece of crap is 9 years old, and I had to use it for 8 of those nine years, now my Comp Camp teacher has it, because she can actually use it and repair it, unlike myself who dosen't have time to fix the 50 million probelms it has.

Yeah, dads can be very stupid at times. But now I convinced my mom that we should hook it up, and my dad is whipped, so it is all good.

Good Job Joeiss, I only was able to get my New PC with the help of my mom, and the fact that my dad was about two seconds away from going insane when he ordered it proved that the "gimme, gimme, gimme" meathod works if used only when nessacary. I was able top get the cable modem I wanted when my family started to argue over who got to use the one 56K connection we had, but that's another story, with one happy ending, I have my own Cable Modem, so I don't have to share it with the "technologically chalenged" computer crashers, aka my family, the exception might be my brother, but my mom and dad can hardly use the thing, the only reason my dad knows how to use it as well as he does is because he does presentation on a PC for Work, and his company has givben him classes, as for my mother, I won't even go there, she can't even change her own desktop, wich is pretty sad, considering that I have a younger cousin who Know's how to do it.
Keep a watchful eye on parent's near a PC, my mom has a problem with AOL all the time, and it's the only thing she uses on it, heaven forbid she finds a game she likes or a way to use file-shareres, I'd have to giev a seminar on how to use them just for her.
