External speakers arent recognized as hardware. so the name of them wouldn't matter. you need to open up volume conrol and make sure nothing is muted and all the limiters are maxed out except for your master volume.

If you have another pair of speakers laying around, try them. If you hear sound on your computer with a different pair, then your speakers are shot.

If you have access to another comptuer, try the speakers in them. If they work on another computer and dont on yours, its some kind of setting that somehow got messed with.

And Sony, I want to give a really harsh comment to what you said just above me but I'm staying quiet

Why don't you spill the beans? I didn't want the thread to fall too off-topic considering she did have an initial question that needed answering...

I guess you being quiet is better than a blank red pip. But don't be afraid to face up to me, I can either learn from it or take it with a grain of salt. But not speaking up usually means that it's not that big of a deal... so oh well.

Yeah, I was about to say, it shouldn't recognize her speakers. There's no way for the computer to see them through a standard audio jack.

It should recognize her soundcard, and if it's not then there's the issue.

But since you figured it all out, cool.
