View Full Version : PS3 Launch Price!
Crash

Today, Japanese Web site Impress PC Watch reported that SCE has told its business partners that the PS3 will be under 40,000 yen ($370.28) at launch. The news has spurred speculation that the company might be launch the machine with the same the same price it set for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Both machines were priced at 39,800 yen ($368) when they launched in 1994 and 2000, respectively.
Sony's PS3 will be competing with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Revolution in the next-generation console wars. When it launched in Japan in 2002, Microsoft's current generation Xbox was priced at 34,800 yen ($322). The company has been shaving down the console's cost since then, and it currently sells at 17,640 yen ($163)--nearly half its launch price.
Nintendo's GameCube made its debut in 2001 at 25,000 yen ($231)--the lowest launch price of the three current-generation home consoles. The GameCube continues to be the lowest priced console on the market, currently marked down to 14,000 yen ($130). Nintendo has never priced any of its past consoles higher than 25,000 yen at launch, which could well be the same case for the Revolution. During E3, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that he hopes to "keep the Revolution at a price range that anyone can reach out for, and nothing as high as 50,000 yen ($463)."
i'm not sold yet.... too many consoles
less then 399, what have i been saying? my predicted price is 349.99, or MAYBE 299.99

That news is a bit more reassuring... But still, the price ain't set in stone until it's been officially announced :>
I remember this happening last gen too... Everyone was afraid that PS2 was gonna be more than 299.... And then it ended up being 299... And people still went ape-**** over the price and were like "OMFG 300!?/1 I ain't ever spending more than 200 on a console!" despite the fact that PS1 launched at 299, and Xbox ended up launching at that price as well...
There's always so much negative speculation towards Sony... Well, towards everyone for that matter...

Heh, yeah. I think we should wait until later this year to find out the XBox 360 price and later next year for the Rev and PS3 prices before making any judgement calls.

no matter how great the system.... i'm sure the prices will always be there to compete with the competition...
If Sony were pricing their system accordingly to what it does... It could go for up to $1,000 according to CNN.
If Microsoft were to price their Xbox 360 accordingly... it could go for up to $800.
Since Micro when $299 for Xbox 360... Sony will have to match that....

Microsoft should launch at $299 and then drop to $249 when PS3 launches. That will force PS3 to launch at $299.

I'm quite sure Microsoft will price drop when PS3 and Revolution launch to try to keep their item as a hot Christmas seller. It would be a good move.

Good move... but nonetheless the PS3 and Rev will just purely own Microsoft next-gen.... I'm rooting for the Japanese Giants.
