If I had ADD, I might have enjoyed that show...
0.5 SECOND CLIP OF GAME FOLLOWED BY 0.5 SECOND CLIP OF GAME WITH CAMERA SPINNING FOLLOWED BY 0.5 SECOND CLIP OF GAME WITH CAMERA ZOOMING FOLLOWED BY A 3 SECOND STRING OF 2 SEPERATE CLIPS SPLICED TOGETHER IN 0.2 SECOND PIECES....
Anyways, obviously not that huge a leap in graphics... The again these games are still unfinished... And I believe Crash is overreacting, but then again it is Crash I'm speaking of...
Edit: Oh yeah and after seeing Joanna's full face, I can safely say she's still ugly...

This mtv show was a HUGE mistake, ESPECIALLY after Sony just got done calling it xbox 1.5
PD0 looks exactly what it is too, a port of a Xbox project over onto Xbox360. very dissapointing rare.

OMG! I can't stop laughing.
Remind me to shoot Matt Leto though. I know the guy well, used to play Crazy Taxi and 18 Wheeler against him. Now I come back from Iraq to read that he won $80,000 last year playing Halo, and now he's getting paid to be on an Xbox 360 special with a free trip to England? Talk about one lucky bastard.

Oh yeah, and while everyone's busy laughing at PDZ, I'd like to point out that Ghost Recon 3 looked quite amazing... Perhaps 5, 10, 15 times better than PDZ? The graphics, the animation, the everything...
After seeing the rest of the games, I'm pondering wether or not it was actually in-game footage...

yeah, i love ghost recon, I can't wait for this one.
the thing is, i know the games will look a whole lot better, but why on earth did they show this game of all of em? this IS a port game, it has people believing in what sony said now. xbox 1.5.
they'd of been better off showing a demo of what they say it could do. that woulda made hype. THIS does not make any hype for MS. Sony is leaning back in thier chairs right now laughing it up and having a relaxing time.
this special meant nothing, sony once again now has first showing basically. cuz i can hardly call this an unvealing.

What a let-down. I was expecting better than that. Especially Rare... I'm disgusted by that. Their games were always graphic pushers, but I guess this one won't be. Hopefully the gameplay is still good.
I dont think the gameplay will be great. ( i cant say what the reviews will give it for ratings cuz they gave halo good ratings so anythings possible) But the game looked like a cheap knockoff of Tribes. done crappily...... with worse graphics... (tribes 2/3 that is, not 1)
i really didnt see anything in there that points to the gameply being good for PD0

...Characters will be made up from around 5000 polygons, and the game's environments will put anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 polygons on screen.
Source: http://videogames1.mtv.com/pages/news/story.php?id=6124333
When I heard that, I instantly remembered something I had read about Eternal Darkness when I did a review for the game back at Nintendose. The main characters are comprised of over 5500 polygons. I'm kind of confused why Rare would even bother releasing that number for their next generation game, as it really makes them look kind of stupid. I mean, at 300,000 polygons on screen at once drawn at 30 frames/second that's only 9 million polygons per second. That's low end current generation. I double checked and it turns out I was right. Sources for the character model polygon count.

Yeah, and Leon from RE4 has something like 10,000 polygons...
While I'm sure they could easily fit more into each character (and everything else), the difference between ED/RE4 and PDZ is that deathmatches can have up to 50 players at once, and it can handle having all of them on the screen at once, or so one of the rareware guys said on that MTV show...

it should be able to handle a lot more then that. at a WHOLE lot more polygons per model. Theres 5 year old computer games that had a lot better graphics then that and held over 100 people PER TEAM online in a match.
i have no doubt in my mind that any of the next gen consoles can do that easily. PD0's problem is that its a port from a xbox game and not one built from the ground up on 360.
gekko

It's probably a port of a Gamecube game; would be my guess. But then again, Eternal Darkness was a port of a N64 game, it didn't turn out this bad. If they have to redesign the characters from scratch, then they should do that. It's not like this game was very far along before it took a turn to 360.
It's not like they were completely starting over. The design aspect of the game would only face a slight set back. The characters, levels, story line all stay the same. They just need to be redrawn.
But the development side should've started over. Maybe keep the physics engine, and the collision engine, but that's about it.
Rare used to be known for delaying games until they were done. Now, we present you Perfect Dark Zero. Another great game butchered to make Microsoft's launch. I'll be sure to save a spot next to Halo for it.

what do you mean either? nintendo? then true, neither Sony nor Nintendo has made thier unvealing.
However for MS, that was it, that WAS thier next gen console unvealing, no matter how you spin it that was it. Sure they can have a strong showing at E3, and probably will, however, its already been unvealed, that makes people that much less interested in thier E3 event.
hmm, lets see, at E3 we can go see Sonys or nintendos unvealing, or we could go see 360 again....... HMMM. what to do... but as i said, MS will have a strong showing, its just that because of this mtv thing, its putting more fucus on Sonys E3 unvealing. almost exactly what sony would have wanted anyway.

Yes, indeed it was their console unveiling. And let's recap what we learned?
The history of gaming does not include PS2
The future of gaming is a girl in a blue dress carrying a bag
Xbox 360 can only be played through a Samsung HDTV
They're pushing Xbox 360 customization, yet pimping an Xbox
Instead of unlocking outfits, you now spend real money on them
The Killers is the official band of Xbox 360
Wow, what a console unveiling that was! But we also learned some fresh new marketing terms
Hi-Def
Interconnectivity
Ring of Light
Living Entertainment Experience
"Chill" white
Well with Microsoft dropping out of the console industry, wonder if that makes room for sega to come back? ;)
lol. i dunno man, Sega's going to have to come up with something awful clever to compete with the ring of light.

05-13-2005, 03:14 PM
Ok... After my cold shower I have calmed down a little. I was thinking that maybe not all hope is lost for PDZ, so I was looking around on 1up's exclusive article of the game, and I actualy decided to read the article rather than just look at the screens.
This is the caveat given as Botwood prepares to show off PDZ for the first time. Running on alpha Xbox 360 development kits (machines that possess only two of the three CPU cores in the final spec, as well as a run-of-the-mill ATI graphics card as opposed to the final, custom GPU set), the game is still very much a work-in-progress. But even at this stage, it's enough to see where they want to go with it.
So the game screens that we have seen may not be what the finished product will be like since it is only running at 2/3 power. Maybe they were just showing us those screens to trick us (doubt it). I really hope Rare can pull off something amazing in the next 6 months, but I'm not going to get my hopes up just to have them crushed again.

We're all laughing at Microsoft, but we have to remember that 90% of the gaming market doesn't pay attention to E3 or message boards, and a lot of casual gamers own XBox, and they probably are still salivating from that MTV program. It turned us away from it, sure, but for the average Joe, it was probably worth it.
Solid Snake

It's sad that the marketing departments for these companines don't try to appeal to the hardcore gamers like us. Even though we probably only repesented a small fraction of their aduience last night we are probably responsible for a big chunk of their business. The casual gamer is going to continue to buy a few games a year like the EA games with big names on the cover, while the hardcore gamers are the ones buying several games a year, subscribing to online services, making sure they have componet cables, dvd remotes, and steering wheels. Hardcore gamers are the ones paying attention to the crap that happened last night, the casual gamer probably didn't even know it was going to happen until he flipped the channel to MTV. I would be suprised if the people in the marketing departments actually bought and played through one or two games a year.
I will just try and forget what happened on MTV and pay attention to E3 where they know the only audience there are hardcore gamers.

E3 effects a lot more of the market then that statistic would suggest. 90% may not pay attention to E3, however they read the magazines, and websites, the news and info from E3 gets around to most of thoes gamers, even if they dont directly pay attention to E3, they still learn about it.

If Rare is using alpha development kits, that means just a few months before the console plans to launch, they still don't have final development kits out. Doesn't look good for Microsoft. And I'm sorry, but ATI makes some nice "run-of-the-mill" graphics cards.
Doom 3 was only shown at medium settings when it was revealed, but it sure looked 100x better than PD0, and that was a few years ago, with worse than a "run-of-the-mill" graphics card.
