Sega's tennis game to cause a racket on Sony's portable this fall; PSP version will feature minigames and wireless play.
Sega today announced that it will be serving up a game of tennis on the PlayStation Portable. Virtua Tennis: World Tour, the on-the-go heir apparent to 2002's PlayStation 2 game Sega Sports Tennis, is scheduled for release this fall on the PSP. The game is currently in the works from UK-based studio Sumo Digital, the developer of OutRun 2 for the Xbox.

The game will feature three modes: world tour, exhibition, and tournament. Gamers will be able to make their own tennis star, or they can choose from a roster of pros. Players will be able to serve and volley on hard, clay, grass, and carpet courts, and they can even play up to three other PSP owners with the unit's wireless capabilities.

GameSpot will have more on Virtua Tennis: World Tour soon

And the referee looks up at the terrible looking audience and calls, "Unimpressive!"

I think Mario Power Tennis might have a 1UP on this game but it's not bad for a handheld.

Personally I'm much more excited about this:

Hooray, what a craptastic audience. I hope the gameplay saves it.

And Burnout on PSP would look better if it wasn't so green and ugly.

add internet play and im in.

exactly... There are a number of PSP games that, while fun, would be made 10x better simply by adding online play...

Lumines, Wipeout, Hot Shots Golf, and those are just the games I own...

The original Virtua Tennis was good. But this is a different developer, and on a handheld.

I'd expect every sports game to have wireless play. Nintendo is announcing DS online, and I'm supposed to be impressed by wireless play for a head-to-head sports game? Not gonna cut it.

I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but it's not enough to get me to buy a PSP. Where's my Death Jr?

Virtua Tennis is the only arcade game I have ever been good at. I remember playing it at Gameworks in Las Vegas one day and having people line up to try and beat me :) . I used that Swedish guy.

Virtua Tennis came out on GBA and it was a fairly nice adaption. I liked it.
