OMG! Did you guys see this?

http://www.psobb.com/guide/images/index_img.jpg

Mapping to 1-0 keys? *faints*

You guys realize I've actually priced a Windows laptop so I can play BB? No! Must resist!

Would it kill them to release it for Xbox, or GC?

Can I play with players who are using Dreamcast, GameCube, and Xbox versions?(1-3)

Because PSO BB features server side saving, previous versions of PSO are not compatible with PSO BB.

BS! GC, DC, and Xbox all played off remote servers, the same servers that are going to store the saves.

PSO - DC
PSO v2 - DC
PSO EPI&II - GC, Xbox
PSO EPI&II Plus - GC
PSOBB - PC
PS Universe - PS2, PC

Wow. This makes a ton of sense.

This is literally the only game that would make me upgrade to a better computer.

I'm going to wait until PSU comes out instead.

Funny, I completely forgot PSO III in both my count on how many PSO games I own (7), and the list of games. Damn.

Anyway, I just made the biggest mistake of my life. I threw in PSO. Just hearing the opening music made me feel like I was in heaven.

But I do think they're ruining PSU by putting it on PS2. Ditched the fanbase from Xbox and GC, don't have the online service Xbox does, and they're not even supporting the HDD! Come on, what an opportunity wasted. We could have client-side patches, item scanners, whole new worlds, but instead they decide not to.

Xbox 360 is the way to go for this game. "But the userbase on a new system is so much smaller." Ya, and PSO fans have never been known to spend money  Hunter licenses, $100 keyboards, BBAs, multiple versions of the same game, etc.

EDIT: OMG! PSOBB is getting Episode V early next year!!! *faints*

And I read the PSU press release

The best online Phantasy Star experience to date. The game features a game world that will evolve with new content over the course of several years.

Several years? So you're releasing it in spring of 06 on PS2???????

Well, PS2 *and* PC.

I agree. I feel shanked about PSU. But I only have to buy a network adapter and a keyboad, and I'm set.

My GC Hunter's Licence is activated right now. I'm playing every second night or so. It's definitely one of my favourite games.

Well yes, PC, but I'm not the biggest fan of PSO on PC. I'd rather sit down and enjoy it from my couch, in surround sound, on an HDTV, talking to someone over Live, running around in game lobbies using symbol chat.

My PC, for one, I'm a Mac user. While I have a PC at home, in my barracks, I do not.

But my computers are setup at a desk, it's more of a work environment. My consoles are by a couch, and while some games have me sitting up at the edge of my seat, PSO I can sit back, relax, and enjoy heaven on earth. I don't do that at a desk.

But I'm tempted to, since I want to see Episode 5.

Then again, I deploy next spring. So hopefully they'll get smart, put PSU on one of the new consoles for launch, and then when I get back that fall, I can buy me a brand new console and PSU as a launch title.

Or, I can continue playing my PS2 for several years :(

You should be able to hook a USB keyboard up to your PS2. That is, if they even still have USB ports. I noticed they removed the 4-pin Firewire, next thing they redesign it and you can't have a HDD anymore. Sadly, Xbox is the only hardware that didn't lose functionality over the years.

And you still play? Man, I'm considering signing back up...

BB is EP I & II for the PC, with the addition of team mode, and some new quests. But with EP IV coming this summer, and EP V coming next spring. It's a whole new PSO I'll be missing *cries*

Downloading now. :D Last summer I was addicted to this game when the PC version was cracked. Everyone cheated it it screwed up my comp but was still so much fun.

Twice I downloaded it from fileplanet and both times it was corrupted. Now getting it the slow way from the main site. Hopefully this one will work.

23 min at fileplant compared to 18 hours at the beta site. :(

Downloaded it from FilePlanet, worked fine.

Couldn't input my userID, has to enable Japanese input. Finally worked, but you stll have to install the patch, which wasn't out until just recently.

My initial impressions:

Better on a console, by far. Graphics are better, but only in the higher-resolution sort-of way.

The controls are a lot worse than the console. Running around, moving the camera, and fighting is all done much more smoothly with a controller. the only real advantage to the keyboard is the 1-0 keys for your techs, and I can't even figure out how to assign them.

Since this is completely online, there is a new game type called one person if you want to play solo. Would be nice to have in the console versions, because of the time-released rares that will never appear in the offline game.

haven't tried out teams yet, hurry the hell up Danny ;), but as good of an addition as it may be, it's not enough. Unless you had every intention of starting from scratch, building new characters and mags up to play Episode IV and V, I wouldn't bother aside from just messing around in the open beta. The console versions are a lot better. I'd just pray that Sega releases Episodes IV and V for Xbox and Gamecube.

If they added the 1-0 action shortcuts for the keyboard (which both GC and Xbox support), and add a team mode, I wouldn't ever think twice about PSO BB.

Found another source to download from. Will be done soon. I really hope nothing is corrupt in this one. Have a controller this time around. Using the mouse bugged me last time but did eventually get used to it... this version is suppose to have improved controls.

Ok everything's working. How do I enable Japanese input? Can't input my ID either.

gekko
05-10-2005, 08:49 PM
Control panel, regional and language settings. Add it as an input language, don't bother restarting. Enter PSO in windowed mode, go to enter the ID, press the left **** + left alt buttons, should see some Japanese text on the side, type away, hit enter.

Exit PSO, disable Japanese input, and it should work fine after that.

Thanks. Ok i'll be in soon. I take a long time when it comes to creating a character.

I use the same 3 characters, just revive them.

Though, Pixy is somehow Oran now, not Redria

Oooh, I think I know why.

They go by your userID, not your character name.

Gotta register first.

Oooh, I think I know why.

Nah, tried another name and got different color. Think cause the names I were picking all started with a same letter. Why did they change the color to name settings? At some PSO site you can test what color you'll get according to your name for the older games and they're completely different than this version.

I have clue. My sexy Ms. Pixy is in red, and is supposed to be REDRIA, not bloody ORAN.

Heh, I said bloody :D

im really enjoying this game...reminds me so much of pristontale...
but i got a question....how do i f***ing aim?!.....im lvl 2...i cant seem to aim properly..i keep wasting my tp aiming balls of fire randomly....so i tend to aim a cluster and i usually hit..i know its supposed to auto aim...but when you move a tiny bit the triangles disappear/move to the monster next to it... im confused...
and one more question...i cant seem to find out how to use the shortcuts down at the bottom... the 1 2 3 4 5 6 ....etc. ones...i know how to use crtl and the arrow keys on the bottom right ...but ive only got 6 shortcuts....

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/happydudette/PSO.jpg

i think its really different from the usual mmorpgs i play...i need to get used to it...quite complicating....more quests...fun ~

Happydude

yeah, i got some skills now...fire, ice, lightning, heal...i also figured out how to use the 1-0 quick button things...erm...the only thing that sucks is that it's not really an MMORPG as you can't play with more than 3 people at a time doing quests and what-not...and i don't find it very fun becuase all the quests are in the exact same forest...i got into a cave twice...somehow...i have absolutly no clue how it appeared as my warp destination...but it was good for a change.

anyway, all in all...this game isn't bad...neither is it good though...i would give it a 5/5...but maybe that's just cause it's in Beta...and it really sucks that open beta is only for one month.

EDIT: lol...i meant 5/10...not 5/5

I started playing it today...Ive never really played a PSO game before, besides maybe real quick like at a friends house...seems to be a fairly steep learning curve.

gekko
05-28-2005, 03:15 PM
Sort of. You can't expect to pick up and play and know all the techniques, all the weapons, etc. But the simple 3-hit combo is enough to get you going, and then learn as you go.

But games like this need a steep learning curve. If you knew and could do everything from the start, it wouldn't be as much fun 200 hours later. I didn't play the game much when I first got it, didn't really get it. Then I went online and played with friends who taught me stuff as I went along, and I fell in love with it.

Still, on DC I only played as a HUmar. It wasn't until Gamecube that I started with a ranger and FUmarl. But it took until Xbox for me to actually make a good FOmarl that could survive on her own, and make a pretty good RAmar as well. It's the never ending game.

But I recommend you don't start with a Force. It's more of a supporting character. Your job is to heal people, and cast spells that make them stronger so they can survive and defeat the enemies. You just do a quick spell, hit everything in the room, and wait for them to do the work so you get the experience. You sit back away from the fight and make sure they don't die. But at lower levels, your techs are too low of a level to affect anyone but yourself, and you can only attack a single enemy at a time, which means you run out of TP fast. Building a Force is tough work, but the payoff is well worth it. By the end you're running through the game killing entire rooms at a time.

And don't try to figure out mags until you figure out the game. If you get into it, you'll spend many many hours and tons of money planning and leveling mags. I've had entire feeding charts planned to get the mags I wanted. It's crazy.

yea..i play support characters in most/all RPG games i play ...i play a fOmarl on PSO...and its really hard to level up on my on...i die in 2 hits...find myself runnning away from things most of the time...you need a partner or a good party to survive the first few levels.
