I do notice another problem that has been building up lately, and it also needs to be resolved pretty quickly. It involves one of the new consoles that was released last fall, and before any anti-Microsoft heretics jump to conclusions and blame the XBox, I have a surprise for you…It’s not the XBox I’m having troubles with…It’s the GAMECUBE!!!!

That’s right, the same GameCube that I was going gaga over back at E3 is now the subject of controversy. And it’s not because of the system itself. The system by itself is a technical wonder, and from what I’ve seen so far, it plays real well despite its diminutive size. But maybe I should rephrase what I say, namely what I’ve seen “so far,” because that’s where the trouble comes in.

It turns out that these last few months the ‘Cube has been known for only rehashed titles from both the PS2 and the Xbox. In fact, since the launch, I have only counted three titles that would be considered AA-quality exclusives, and those are Rogue Leader, Smash Bros. Melee, and to a lesser extent, Pikmin. We could probably list NBA Courtside 2002 as a fourth, but after playing NBA 2K2, I can’t really play another roundball title. I won’t add Luigi’s Mansion to the list either, because I don’t find that to be a true Mario-esque game, and was bored with it in mere minutes.

Aside from those titles, what have we seen for the ‘Cube lately? As I said before, mostly rehashes: All Star Baseball 2003 (PS2 & Xbox), NBA Street (PS2), Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast), Dark Summit (Xbox), Extreme G3 (PS2), Madden 2002 (PS2 & Xbox), Dave Mira 2 (PS2), SSX Tricky (PS2 & Xbox), and Tony Hawk 3 (PS1, PS2 & Xbox), to name a few. There isn’t really much that this system can be proud to call their own.

As a result, my GameCube has been collecting dust on my workstation. I can always go back to Rogue Leader from time to time, but I want something new! I am tired of going to EB or Babbages and not seeing any new exclusive GameCube titles, and I am wondering if I wasted $200 on a system that is not getting any new, original material. I know that there are a lot of titles planned for E3 (Mario Sunshine, Zelda, Wrestlemania X8, etc.), but that’s still 2 and a half months away! I’m not the only one who is upset about this, as even retailers from said stores are complaining about it as well.

Nintendo needs to realize this. Their business is hurting because they are not releasing anything worthy of a ‘Cube purchase. The whole “quality over quantity” B.S. didn’t work during the Nintendo 64 days, and it sure as hell isn’t going to work now, and someone needs to grab ol’ Bug Eyes himself (Miyamoto) by the balls, make his eyes pop out even more, and realize that we want our games.

I do want to mention though that I know there are a few readers out there who want to pick a fight with me, and state that I do this every time a new console comes out. I admit I criticized the PlayStation2 last year when trickles of titles were coming out, but at least original titles were still being released, despite being few and far between.

And as for the Xbox, it still is in its infancy but unlike the GameCube, it has released unique titles on a regular basis. While we may have started with quality titles such as Halo and Project Gotham, it has also expanded to more original releases such as Wreckless, UFC Tapout, Jet Set Radio Future, and most recently the visually stunning and very enjoyable Rallisport Challenge.

I would also include lower quality exclusives are out for Xbox such as WWF Raw, just to show that titles ARE being released on a regular basis for Microsoft’s big black box. And before any Nintendo fanboys and anti-Microsoft radicals accuse me of being a Gates fanboy (which I have already received tons of smack about), be aware that I speak the truth about this matter, and even Nintendo’s other system, the Game Boy Advance, is releasing top quality titles at a regular basis. Super Mario Advance 2, anyone?

Honestly I do not want to see the GameCube falter. It’s a darn good system, and has a lot of unforeseeable potential, but the lack of original titles is killing it. Therefore, I have no choice but to give Nintendo an ultimatum: release some high quality ORIGINAL titles for the GameCube before E3. If this is not met, then I will have no choice but to post my GameCube and everything I got with it on eBay.

I don’t want to do it though because I do know of a few N64 titles I never got to play with because I dumped that system. Please Nintendo, don’t force me to do something this drastic, release some new titles A.S.A.P.

Is it me or is this guy right about this PLz Big N lets have some games fast I still have my pre-order for the cube but I'm starting to think that maybe it's a bad move getting a Gamecube and the PS2 and Xbox are all the consoles I need and they have way better games at this point in time.

THPS3 and ASB2003, rehashes of xbox and PS2? They came out about the same time, how is it a rehash. I think the word would be port, and its not even a port.

I do agree that the past say, 2 months have been lacking. But its preperation for the future. Use this time to invest in gaming funds.

I kinda agree about what he says. But, he is making it seem worse than it is. I mean, the ports are a good chance to play some games if you missed them. I am interested in Gaunlets dark legacy and Bloody Roar primal fury. So I can rent them when they come out and see the upgrades they've made on the games. Also, he sounds like if he's holding a hostage. Come on give me a break.

The good games are coming, and there are a bunch of them. They're doing things right. I guess if the games come out earlier and suck he'll be the first one to make an article about how bad is nintendo for not taking their time to make good games.

I basically agree with that quote...

IMO Nintendo isn't taking advantage of thier hardware as much or as fast as Microsoft...

A lot of my friends say that Gamecube has Ps2 quality visuals (even though it's untrue)... The sad part is, I can't go out right now and rent a game to prove them wrong...

And here I am in the UK thinking, whats the problem? The console has'nt even been launched here yet but when it is theres going to be some GREAT launch titles and some ace games on the horizon.

I feel it is a little too early to make judgements about GC's performance just yet, but you've had the console awhile now and I understand you may be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next game to come along.

While I agree with most of the article, I object somewhat to criticizing the GameCube for having ports. If those games hadn't been ported to the GameCube, people would probably criticize it for that. What do you think would have happened if GameCube had never gotten a Madden game from EA?

True, some of the ports come out later than their respective Xbox and PS2 versions, but it's better than never arriving at all.

Xantar, it's not that ports are bad... it's just that the majority of Gamecube's game quality rests with ports at this point in time...

2 out of Gamecube's last 20 game releses are NOT ports

(NBA Courtside and Universal Studios)

and

1 out of thier nex ten sceduled game releases aren't ports

(Resident Evil)

Just a correction, THPS3 came out on Gc before the xbox version.... So how the hell is a port of the ps2 AND XBOX version?

Anyways, I guess what the guy is saying is techincally correct, but, honestly soeaking, I don't care when the games come out, as long as they do come out (the exclusive ones that is). Why do you think I bought the PS2 and Xbox? ;)

"The whole 'quality over quantity' B.S. didn’t work during the Nintendo 64 days, and it sure as hell isn’t going to work now"

That's my fav. part :D

Anyways... I kinda agree with him... sure I havn't even PLAYED the games, but there aren't even many games I'm interested in, and for those ports, if I wanted them, I'd already own them on PS2 (for the ones that are on PS2, that is)...

Buuuut... like shadow link says... I don't really care WHEN they come out as long as they DO come out... I have my PS2 to tide me over and I'll soon have Virtua Fighter 4, and add that to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance which I'm still playing and that should be able to carry me over to Resident Evil's release date... :D hopefully ED doesn't get delayed along with SFA, cuz since I'm getting my gamecube earlier than I thought and there aren't many great gamecube games coming out soon, I'm more interested in it and probably going to buy it... Even though I still don't think it will be as good as some of you guys think ;)

"1 out of thier nex ten sceduled game releases aren't ports

(Resident Evil)"

Yeah, and that's not even 100% new :p

But really, before NGC was released, everyone was like "IT WILL BRING NINTENDO BACK TO THE GLORY DAYS THAT WAS THE 16-BIT GEN.!" and crap like that... and I was like "Err yeah, I'll believe that when I see it"... and then right off a nice launch, they go into a slump and probably won't get out until late this year... and that's if zelda and mario and such don't get delayed ;)

Still though, as long as all those upcoming anticipated games live up to their potential, gamecube will still be worth the 200 bucks... and if gamecube games alone can't keep me busy, like I said, I have mah PS2 :D

:burger:

I just hope NGC survives the slump and those anticipated games don't suck... I hope mario doesn't suck and I hope the cel shaded graphics don't ruin zelda for many people etc etc...

Although it would be a nice dose of reality for Nintendo fans that Nintendo's games aren't always perfect and Nintendo can make mistakes ;)

There are so many comebacks I can come up with against this, and I'm a Nintendo fanboy (or at least a Nintendo-only gamer).

Well for once I'm gonna have to.. eww.. argh.. agree with Justin on pretty much everything he said. We had a discussion similar to this um like yesterday on AIM. This was before he confessed that he truly without a shadow of a doubt sucks at SSBM.

I would like to point out he missed a few games (not that they were important) but like Home Run King and Sega Soccer Slam weren't ports and I'm sure I could find me...

And I don't know if SpiderMan is considered a port since it's being worked on the same time for all 3 consoles and will be released the same time.. and as far as I know there is no one base game

In his other paragraphs there are claims that you are a homosexual and are going out with LoudHoward. So, you are confirming it!

And back on topic, I think that what gamer said about GCN being all about the next couple years is true. And that sure as hell isn't a good thing. While GCN owners will truly enjoy their system in the future (with amazing games like Mario, Zelda, PD, Metroid), I am enjoying myself fully with my PS2. And I will still be enjoying myself in the future with PS2.

I agree with the guy on a lot the points he brought up. The GC is starting to become like the N64. Hopefully Nintendo can wake up, and realize that although quality is more important than quantity, quantity is still an important factor.

Yes, so Nintendo should just do the exact opposite and release almost no good games at all... perfect!

If you think about it (from what I know I guess), would you rather have 1-3 quality kick A$$ games a month or so, or 5-10 crap A$$ games with almost no point in buying. I would personally rather have quality over quantity.

i most definitely want afew great games rather than alot of crapy ones. thats what everyone wants. its all my oppinion and thats what the majority of average people want too. hey, u never no maybe there are some people that specifically enjoy the less complex, less graphically inclined, and etc kinds of games(junk, crap or **** to the normal person).lol:D
