View Full Version : Possible Punch-Out title
http://cube.ign.com/articles/604/604075p1.html
April 13, 2005 - Several weeks ago, it seemed as though Nintendo was keeping busy filing patent after patent at the U.S Trademark and Copyright office. And for awhile, gamers everywhere were finding "gold" buried under the mass of technical jargon. Bloggers filled the web with theories, most of which centered on the Nintendo Revolution, the upcoming successor to the GameCube. Then all went quiet. At least for awhile. A quick search on the Copyright office website reveals Nintendo filed a trademarkon April 01, 2005 for Punch-Out!!.
Nintendo fans need no introduction to the Punch-Out!! legacy, but for those who don't know, it's as classic as Mario himself. Even today, Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES holds its own as a fantastic boxing game. So, what does this recent filing mean exactly? Depending on one's imagination, it can mean a little or a lot. A new Punch-Out!! title for the GameCube? Possibly. A Revolution launch title? Maybe. It may even hint at an upcoming Nintendo DS title. The only thing of any real certainty is that no one will know for a very long time. This is Nintendo, after all.
Stay tuned.
or nintendos late april fools. lol

I think that Punch Out would be an awesome title for the DS. Touch where you want to punch, or maybe touch to move you around, then press a button to punch. Either way, that would probably be a pretty awesome use for teh handheld.

Punch-Out! DS and Punch-Out for either the 'Cube or Revolution would be awesome if it stayed more like the other 2 titles and not a 'uber-realistic non-punch-out like game'

I'm excited. Mike Tyson's Punchout was one of my favorite games back in the day... I can't wait...

lol? April 1st is the start of the new business year in Japan. It's entirely plausible.
Square and Enix officially merged on April 1st.

I'm embarrassed to say I've never played any Punch-Out game. Do I deserve a punch-out for that? ;)
Maybe a DS modified/updated version of the SNES version will be my second chance to play this supposed classic.
Isn't an NES version also available in Animal Crossing?

Well, I know this is a stolen idea from IGN, but wouldn't it be a cool game to use the konga drums for?
Left konga for left arm.. right kongo right arm...
Clap to dodge.. don't know what you do when you hit both.

No, both would be the super punch.

The NES version is now available, yes.
Don't worry, I haven't played one either.

No, both would be the super punch.
More combinations would be necessary to make the game interesting. Perhaps combos. Maybe like three consecutive hits would make an uppercut. Clap could dodge one way, double hit could dodge another way...
Hmmm, and why am I making ideas for something that'll never happen. Even if it did, I doubt I'd be on the design team.

Yeah, Punchout has been in Animal Crossing, along with the original Zelda and Mario Bros (if you have an action replay)

I knew that it was in Animal Crossing, I didn't know there was a way to unlock it without Action Replay. Is there?
