View Full Version : American Muscle vs. Japanese Speed

Which do you prefer and what kind of car do you drive, if any?

I drive a 2000 Honda Prelude Type SH DOHC V-TEC. Or if thats too many abbreviations, I drive a '00 Honda Prelude VTec.

I prefer speed over muscle, because in my opinion a lot of the really powerful american cars are ugly... besides the new mustang.

I drive a 91 CRX. That can't really be considered speed, but I have always prefered the Japanese engineering of cars and if I had more money, I would get an Eclipse or a Prelude or something of that nature.

European luxury. I simply couldn't settle for anything less.

American muscle (if we're talking about the good old muscle cars) or european. Most the japanese cars look cheap to me, many look the same. (some look great tho dont get me wrong,)

I have no specific time era in mind, taking this poll. You can look at American Muscle as a '67 Mustang or a '05 Mustang GT or a Dodge Charger of the old 442's

Same with all the others. European is Luxury because although they have power and speed, it takes a sh*t load of money to acquire one, and the insides are usually luxurious.

This poll can take place from the old '15 Ford T Model to the '05 Ferrari 360 Spyder

My favorite car of all time is the '96 Nissan Skyline R33

Also GM, can I ask what type of European Luxury? I picture you in a '88 Rolls Royce with Suede interior and wine bottles everywhere....

Why the hell isn't Middle Eastern Rickshaw included in this poll! I'd rather have two guys carrying me around than be driving in a piece of machinery.

Even though I drive an SUV (of sorts), I'd still like a car for me...

I drive the 2000 Nissan Frontier SE. The car for me is the 96 Nissan 240SX (or the Nissan Silvia S14... to be exact...)

99 Eclipse Spyder GST

Probably got 230 hp, which is fine with me (for now)

/me drives off into the sunset with the top down.

I'm guessing your Eclipse isn't stock, considering they aren't 230 stock. Cuz 99 GST models have about 210 stock with the intercooled turbocharger. You must've done SOMETHING to it.

If I had to pick out of those topics, I'd probably go European Luxury. I'm not big on the sports cars and stuff like that... not my style. I'd prefer to drive classy.

Have you ever driven a Nissan Skyline?

No?

I have.

Hey there goes Darren, he's flaunting his new BMW M5 with leather seating and Contra flags....

EDIT: Cool you've driven one, I went to a Hot Import Nights and got to drive a R32.... but I wanted so bad to be inside a R33.

Which skyline were you able to drive?

Hahaha I wish I was driving a beamer. Right now I don't drive because I'm at school (my girlfriend drives me around in her pimped out PONTIAC SUNFIRE), and at home I either drive the family Civic or our little Geo Tracker (that doesn't have power steering... alllllriiiiight).

I either choose Japanese or Euro, but preferrably not American. I like the luxury of BMW and Volvo, and the Japanese cars are just well-built cars.

On a side note, I really can't see how people like the Camaro. It's a piece of crap. I've test-driven two. Is there something I'm missing? Because they have awful handling. It's not worth it to drive one.

I voted American Muscle because my first love was the Ford Mustang. But generally my taste changes from month to month.

I drive a Kia Rio because that is what my parents bought me, its name is the Micro Machine.

I would like to own a Mustang, but I also like the Jetta.

I love the Pontiac Firebird.

MuGen

I have to agree about the Camaro. At first glance it seems like a powerful car, but all it is, is just beauty and the beast. The camaro handles like garbage. Out of all the american muscle... this has to be the worst car.

Firebirds, Thunderbirds, Chargers, and 'stangs (not the 90-04 stangs... the New Mustang and the old Mustangs)... are the best of the American Muscle right there.

Don't forget the Shelby cars.

what catagory do dodge vipers and ferraris fall into?

anyway, out of those i would choose japanese speed...I'd like to own an Eclipse...i think the '97 model or maybe it's the models before the '97 that didn't have that ugly bump on the hood.

MuGen

Aha.... there you go... Thing is I like the 2nd gen Eclipses but then I also like the newer eclipse's styling. Pin those two together (2nd gen engine, 3rd gen styling) and you have a superb car.

Ever think about the Evo?

EDIT: Dodge Viper is American Muscle (Dodge is American). Ferrari is European.

American Muscle without a second thought. I like a car that is fast in stock form. You shouldn't have to spend a ton of money and bolt on a ton of crap to get it to perform decently. That and a bolt on muffler that makes your car sound like a loudmouth lawnmower with a bad case of gas is NOT cool. I want the low, throaty growl of a V8. I want a car that can hustle off the line and sound like it's not even breaking a sweat doing it. It want tire smoke to come off the back wheels like a real man's car. Front wheel drive is for minivans and family sedans.

All this and by and large, Japanese cars are a snore in the styling department and the body mods usually don't help. Especially those gigantic wings that people put on the back of a front wheel drive car. Entirely pointless. Even in stock form, many true American Muscle cars are absolutely gorgeous.

I know absolutely nothing about cars. I really couldn't care less, because I'm a speed limit driver.

I'm going to end up driving a minivan full of kids to 6am hockey practice anyways, so it doesn't matter.

My choice is European.

Right now I can't afford anything that great. I'm looking at getting me an 89 325i soon.

I don't know how my friends can afford to drive their V8 mustangs around:S

I've always liked the 70-72 datsun z cars. (fairlady)
It's hard to find one that doesn't need a lot of restoration without paying mucho.

My dream setup is a mini with a vtech engine or a 60-65 bug with 180-200 hp.

Both will own pretty much anything on the road....the mini with a vtech has the same acceleration times as a superbike. ;)

Seth, where in BC are you from?

Seth

The hometown of greenpeace.

...Kelowna

(20 minutes north in a quaint little town called Lake Country)

My address is 16657 Maki Rd.

Oh yeah? My brother went to school in Kelowna at OUC, and now my other brother lives in Penticton... goes to Kelowna from time to time.

I'm in Prince George right now at UNBC, then back to the hometown of Kitimat (you might not have heard of it... town of 10,000 up north, only known for our aluminum smelter, fishing, and hockey) for the summer.

Seth

Of course I've heard of kitimat. Never been there though.

You at UNBC cuz it's cheap or is the uni actually good? Yeah, OUC in Kelowna is now part of UBC...which basically makes it harder to be accepted there:(

DarrenMcLeod

I'm at UNBC because I wanted a small school, and I got a $6500 scholarship here. Also, being in the north is great too.

American Muscle. I've recently acquired a taste for the classic models. Euro would come second and then Japanese. Cutlass' and Impalas are great cruising cars and I'm not a racer so they fit me.

My favorite cars are Audis though so go figure :p

Check out the Dodge Sprinter (http://www.cardata.com/images/2005/2005%20Dodge%20Sprinter.jpg). Now thats hot.

I don't know much about cars and I can't drive... but I have liked the VW beetle since forever. I don't know how it is like performance wise and honestly, I like it only for it's shape... Apparently it gets smashed rather easily...

Anyway, I'll have one in red, please :p

Kyuzo, the boyfriend drives a Skyline R-33... Didn't like it at first but I'm warming up to it (...or her, the way he prefers it... )

Do you know an Adam Goulding and Amber Murray? Knowing them they probably have met everyone on campus now.

Yeah, Kitimat isn't too obscure. I've heard of it too.

I know some Adams... don't know if any are Adam Goulding. I know one Amber, but she is from PG and doesn't go to school here, so I doubt it's the one you're thinking of.

Adam is about 5'8" and he wears glasses, Amber is a fiery redhead of about the same height. She's like 20 while he's 18, but they're in a relationship, and she moved up there just to be with him (and away from both their parents who disagree with their relationship.)

I guess it's not such a small school after all, hahah.

American Muscle.. I drive a 2001 Dodge Ram extended cab 4x4 with a 5.9 V8 with a dual exhaust, throttle body spacer, and ram/cold air intake. I'm doing a CPU upgrade when I get back to the states. :) It's fun :)

I will go with Japanese speed. Japanese cars, are reliable, and far more efficient than any american car. Just look at the Honda S2000 it gets 120 hp per liter. I would just love to see Honda make a VTEC V8 to kick some American muscle butt.

As for me, I drive a 98 Honda Prelude VTEC (2.2 liter 195 hp). I love this car, and I don't even know its full power because I live at 6,000 ft above sea level, its like running on only 3 cylinders and it's still fast.
