According to Enterbrain Inc., publisher of Famitsu and other game magazines in Japan, sales of the Sony PSP have begun to outpace those of the Nintendo DS.
According to independent research conducted by Enterbrain, Sony's PSP bested Nintendo in handheld console sales in both February and March of this year.
The most popular handheld in Japan is still the Nintendo DS, however: the DS sold an impressive 1.09 million units during December, a total that Sony has only just now reached after four months of sales.
The PSP, suffering from production delays, sold only 330,000 units in December. The DS continued to beat the PSP in January, selling 450,000 units to the PSP's 360,000 units.
But the tables turned in February, when 195,000 PSP units were sold, edging out 121,000 DS units. PSP sales increased by a small margin in March, reaching 202,000 units, and DS sales also increased, reaching 136,000 units.
While these new numbers are encouraging for Sony, the PSP still lags behind the DS in overall penetration: Japanese consumers currently own 1.09 million PSPs and 1.8 million DSs.

Looks like the competition is heating up in Japan. I can't wait to see overall numbers for the NA market.

Do we need a new thread every single time some new "PSP vs DS" thing comes out? I mean, really? Can't we just have a single thread or something? This just seems kind of redundant and unecessary.

It's a news article.... besides if there was a forum for PSP vs. DS every one of these threads would go there.
But right now, it would be oversized to have one thread with every PSP vs. DS item in it. Although redundant, I'm just reporting news.
Don't waste your time replying to this thread if you feel it's unnecessary...... if you feel that way move on to the next one.
It's like visiting a website everyday to post a comment on the shoutbox saying "This site sucks"

YOU of all people say that? the one who actually types out the same dorky phrase after every single post? Somehow the word, "Irony" doesnt quite totally cover this... :p :D

If Kyuzo wants to make a general DS vs. PSP thread, I'll sticky it and we can post all news related items in there. I can't complain though, activity and new threads are welcomed by someone who visits as much as I do.

Yeah, at least it's another thread. This place is quite dead sometimes.

/me does the whole weight-hands-thing
A semi-deadish looking forum with one or two important threads.
OR
A supposedly alive forum which each thread being about the same thing...
I don't know. I'd probably pick option one. I don't see how having one single thread would be worse than multiple threads that clutter up the forum; I can only see it as an immprovement.
Besides, how long can sales numbers or comparisons really be considered news? Or at least important enough news to make a separate thread every time it shows up? The is a discussion forum, not a place to report every single news item. Eventually sales numbers are going to become less interesting and important (perhaps even now since all of the posts so far have had to do with my complaint rather than the actual news post) and nobody will care enough to talk about it.
At that point creating a thread each time sales numbers are released will be spam. It clutters the forum with stuff we don't need. Just create one thread so that everyone who wants the sales numbers knows where to get, and the people who don't want it don't have to slog through several different threads about the same thing to get to what they care about.
/me shrugs and walks away <--and THIS is a completely different thing
easy way to fix that, is dont post in the thread if you dont like it. The forum needs em tho, whether you think so or not. more more things there are to talk about, the more people it may draw in. I'd much rather read things that are new on the forum then to come here and see no new posts have been made.

Anyway, we saw DS sales increase (and higher than PSP) after the 2 new colors were released. People were probably just waiting for those! :D

That's understandable, new colors and/or options will boost any type of item in the market. I'm wondering if the PSP ever made the GT4 PSP unit available in japan.
