This is cool news. The number 360 sounds powerful and makes me want to offer my support and allegiance.

That name SUCKS. BAD. And if they don't make backwards compatability and a HD standard, my first next gen console will be the PS3 (which looks baddasss)
yea this name has been on the rumor list for a while. it has also been considered one of the worst of the rumored choises for a while. Dont like it. but then again i havnt liked many of the names. what will be the next one? xbox 720 ? wonder if its gunna launch with a skateboard game. Dissapointed with this choice of name. i was really hoping for Xenon

Xenon was the best of the choices I had heard. I thought Xbox 360 was just a joke name really. They just had to add a number in there :-o

I guess the name could be worse, like " Crap Box "

I beg to differ, I would buy something called the "Crap Box" just to say I owned a Crap Box. How many people would proudly say "I own an Xbox 360!!"?
Opposed to the people who would proudly say "I own a Crap Box!!".
I could try make a really insightful comment on how the "360" symbolizes the fact they are trying to make a big difference in the gaming world, but just end up going in the same direction they were initially going anyways......but I wont.

All microsoft needs to do now is lose HD and BC standards and it will definitely kill it's fan base.
Way to Go microsoft... Xenon would've been a sure win..

Funny how Microsoft decided to keep the XBox name going like Sony did with Playstation. I was wondering if they'd keep the big name going, ala Sony, or change the name with each system, ala Nintendo (although Nintendo's name is pretty much the equivilent of the Playstation or XBox name, so it's not really a fair comparison).

Xenon: A colourless, odourless gas used in electric luminescent tubes to provide a bright light.
Man, what a boring and weak name to append to a console of such great promise and power. Thank you Microsoft, for dodging that one. Let's show these cyber punks the power of 360!

yeah, that's crap. imagine a clear-cased console filled with electric luminescent tubes and a bright light. *yawn*
360...I picked up my glass of water and rotated it along its vertical axis 360 degrees about 10 minutes ago...long story short, Im still trying to contain my ungodly amount of excitement. I would do it again, but Im afraid I might suffer some form of heart failure. WHAT A RUSH!

If they are so dead set on that name, I think they should at least knock the Xbox off the name and call it just the 360. Xbox 360 sounds more like an add-on for the current console than the next-generation microsoft offering.
The numbering scheme works for Sony since playstation in my mind is just another way of referring to a console, but to me Xbox always referred to the design of the current console and therefore, is too closely related to this generation to be carried on in the name.

Well they can't call it Xbox 2. Consumers in this country are so ****ing stupid there'd be people who wouldn't buy an Xbox 2 simply because 3>2 and we already know that the next sony system is PS3.
This gets around it quite nicely, though personally I liked NexTBox
well now people going to be saying, its 360 bit!!!!! :p

It's going to be an Xbox on a circular pivot gyro, so it can spin in 360 degrees so it adjusts to wherever your playing.

like IGN said, it's xbox 360 so it's better than a (nintendo) revolution, it's a 360
and it's better than playstation 3, it's xbox 360
eh, i'm curious to see if it can do some serious stuff.

I highly doubt it's more powerful than the PS3, considering what developers are saying after getting their dev kits.
If we speculate ANYTHING without actually seeing anything, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are probably on the same level, and of course the Revolution is this huge revolution in gaming that we know nothing about.
they just mean that is what the name means, 360 is far greater then a 3, and 360 is a 'revolution' fully around. so its better then a revolution. hehe

I believe that this console will be round, therefore shattering all modern perceptions of the word "box".

The name can be perceived as many things. Many people think it represents the power over the PS3 in numerical value.
However I believe thats how much it's going to launch at.... $360.00 and they are betting to sell about 360,000 of them...lol

Three hundred and sixty (360, CCCLX) is the natural number following three hundred and fifty-nine and preceding three hundred and sixty-one.
Cardinal 360
three hundred [and] sixty
Ordinal 360th
three hundred [and] sixtieth
Factorization <math> 2^3 \cdot 3^2 \cdot 5<math>
Roman numeral CCCLX
Binary 101101000
Hexadecimal 168
Its divisors are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 60, 72, 90, 120 and 180, making it a highly composite number. Not only is 360 highly composite, but also no number less than twice as much has more divisors.
One of 360's divisors is 72, which is the number of primes below it.
A circle is divided into 360 degrees for the purpose of angular measurement, which is a convenient standard since, 360 being highly composite, it allows a circle to be divided into equal segments with each segment measured in integer degrees rather than fractional degrees.
360 is the sum of a twin prime (179 + 181).
Three hundred and sixty is also
* Shorthand for panoramic photographs and virtual reality worlds, since it is the degree measurement of a circle
* A telephone area code for most of western Washington state (includes Bellingham, Vancouver, Aberdeen, Olympia, but excludes Seattle area, which is area code 206).
* The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services I-form Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant.
Would have been interesting if Redmond's area code was 360...but it's 425.
