Using Google's new Satellite map service, attach a picture of your home/surroundings.
Article about the newly released feature: http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/04/05/google.maps.ap/index.html
Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps
In the search bar, you just enter as follows:
Street, City, State
Then you click the satellite link. And zoom in as far as possible. :)
Note: My picture shows light colored hills and ground, but right now the grounds and hills are green so this picture must've been taken in the summer or fall.
I think this is only available to U.S. and Canadian residents, sorry Canyarion and Bube.
The little red tab pinpoints the house

Man, my neighborhood looks ugly from an aerial view. Labeled some spots.

Where my crappy job is located. City Hall is one of those buildings...couldn't tell you which.

One of the buildings of my college. I like this area.

And decided to include my old college just because it's in the shape of a GIANT BRAIN!!!

Hooray! I don't know how to scale that, but it's a really long way to both campuses. But not as long as to UBC. Oh, let's scale anyways.

I've been playing with this sense I read about it in Dyne's livejournal.
Fun stuff.
But it's extremely hard to find my house, because the area I live in is so rural.

Yeah, it doesn't have every area in satellite view.
Anyway here is mine. My house is on the corner to the left of the cursor.
Sean, can you do an image of your house in relation to the pikton(sp?) farm?

It will be a pretty big picture, The Farm is closer to our school, you might want to show the location of the school too.
Typhoid

I tried, but I honestly forgot where the farm is. With all the development and townhouses they've been putting up, it looks completely different than it did 6 months ago.
I made an image, circled a small area, but looking at it and thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.
You might want to get Dyne to show the location of our houses and the farm, I'm pretty sure he knows.
EDIT: For what its worth, this is what I did, and I now I'm wrong, bu I think its really close to the circled area, and the red thing at the top is obviously my house.

You know, PoCo is bigger than that right....in that picture, your saying PoCo is basically 7 streets and a traffic light.
Fox 6
04-05-2005, 11:56 PM
Hahahaha, that is definatley not Poco. It's a lot bigger.
I didn't say "All of Poco'' I just said Poco. Parts of it. like if you say to someone "Eat pie" you don't expect them to eat all the pie.
Fox 6

when you say Poco people think you mean the whole thing. At least normal people do.
And your point being...
And I care because...
EAT PIE!

Actually, the remnants of the pig farm are directly east of that; the huge dug up lot beside it. *pokes* It used to take up a lot of the housing, too, but there's.. houses on it, yeah. People are living on dead whores! Yes!
Typhoid

I didnt mean remnants, I mean overall, But I didnt want to circle all the development, But those houses there were part of the farm, as was the new commercial development, and the east corner of our school (I think). And all the new Houses across the street from the school too (which arnt in the picture, because the picture is from a while ago).

Well, when you see pictures of the pigfarm in the news, you'll see the big dug up lot, not the housing. That's why I pointed out that it's east of what you were pointing at.
The first one, the house I lived in when I was in the US (X one the roof, not the A).
Second one, where I live right now (rough estimate).
Third, where I live right now (exact adress).

:p You reckon the pictures are a bit out of date?
I have seen a map with the arial view of Melbourne at some tourist information centre. I spent about an hour just staring at it... quite fascinating :p
dunno why they call it new, Yahoo has had this for almost 5 years now.
and these pictures are i'd almost say a year old too. all the tree's have leaves on them. that means at least 2004 summer. but im thinkin they might even be older then that.

jeepnut was looking at his home town last night and said it was slightly outdated (1 and a half or so), judging by the buildings that have gone up recently

Actually, I might even put it closer to two years old. Circuit City wasn't even started yet in that photo and that store has been there at least a year and a half. Heck, they might even be older than 2 years. 3 might be pushing it though.
Of course, that's just for the pictures of my area, other areas may have been photographed more recently. When I was looking at it the other day, I found New York City. If anyone knows that WTC site really well, you could be able to date the pictures using that info.
EDIT: Added a picture of my place.
Blackmane

Yea, those pictures are quite old. In them, our Circuit City is still under construction, and I think it has been open for at least 2-3 years.
