View Full Version : Games you still want from this generation

I was looking at my "to buy" list of games that aren't out yet, and I realized the pickings are getting mighty slim. Even if PS3 is still 18 months away it's becoming pretty obvious that this gen is really winding down.
Gamecube
The Legend of Zelda
Advance Wars Whatever (I'll be shocked if this game ever actually comes out for the cube)
PS2
Katamari Damacy 2
Rise of the Kasai
Xbox
Conker: Live and Reloaded
That's pretty much it. I've got some backlog I'd still like to pick up (DMC3, Ace Combat 5, Ratchet UYA, Mercanaries) but as for stuff still in the pipeline, I'm almost done.
So, anyone else still holding out for a few more big titles in the next few months?

SOCOM 3
Ratchet: Deadlocked
God of War
Black
Final Fantasy XII
Madden NFL 2006
NCAA Football 2006
Plus, this is the time of year when future lineups dont look so bright. Then E3 hits, and a bunch of stuff gets shown, and you add a couple more games to your list here and there.

PS2:
God of War
FFXII
Phantasy Star Universe (WHY!? WHY DID THE XBOX VERSION GET CANCELED!? :( )
Xbox:
Citizen Zero (Probably Next Gen)
Black
Jade Empire
Conker: Live and Reloaded
Advent Rising
DimHalo

The Legend of Zelda
DarkMaster

PS2:
FFXII
Kingdom Hearts 2
Grandia III
Dragon Quest 8
Shadow of the Colossus
Ratchet: Deadlocked
Katamari Damacy 2
Silent Hill 5
Game Cube:
Zelda
is it just me, or is GCN's lineup this year absolutely horrendous? I mean good God...without Zelda it wouldn't even exist.

I was really hoping they'd keep their promises and let both Jak and Ratchet die after #3 but looks like we're getting another round. I'm not saying they're going to be bad games, but it's just so typical of the gaming industry. I wish they'd save these either for the next gen or go on to new characters.
And stu. God of War is un ****ing believable. It raises the bar as far as action/adventure games go. I'll warn you that it's only about 8 hours long but I don't feel like I was cheated.

Plus, there are boobs in GoW. You can't go wrong with that game.

1st thing, I agree somewhat about the Jak/Ratchet thing. Typically, I would like to see someone other than Ratchet this fall...but the thing is, Insomniac has made the 2nd game better than the first, and then the 3rd game better than the second. If they continue THAT trend, I wont pretend to be too disappointed. And plus, apparently this one is taking a new direction...some squad-based online gameplay. I think they can still do some new, interesting things with that engine. Those Insomniac guys are very creative.
And about GoW...all I hear is good things about the game. an 8-10 hour game is not a problem with me, and like you said, people have been saying every second was worth the ride so it doesnt feel that the length is a bad thing.
I look forward to it...
I only want a couple games.
God of War
Soul Calibur 3
and I still need to get Katamari Damacy, Then I can get the second.

Final Fantasy XII
You're right, Stonecutter. The most we ever saw of Advance Wars: Under Fire was at last year's E3. It's sort of died down now. I wonder what happened? But, on the other hand, I wasn't excited by it at all.
Fire Emblem GCN, on the other hand - that's what I can't wait for. It looks really hot. Legend of Zelda, too, and Phantasy Star Universe for sure. As well, Katamari Damacy 2!
I also have to catch up on a lot of prior releases (never even seen a Jak game or a R&C game running before.) Hopefully in my 5 months off of University, I can catch up before this generation dies down and my next-gen virgin eyes are not ruined yet.

I still want to pick up a copy of Amplitude.
Are there any more games being made in the Frenquency & Amplitude series?

No, the developer, Harmonix, is working on the Karaoke Revolution series for Konami, now. I think they're safely done for this generation, unless Sony unleashes a surprise at E3.

Ratchet is fantastic.
Jak.... umm.... what's a nice way to say sucks? Cause it does. (I've only ever played Jak II but it's really bad.)

Not 8-10. Eight... maybe.
But you'll probably want to run through it twice.

I'll rephrase
A 5-8 hour game wouldnt bother me, under said conditions.
And Jak and Daxter was a fun platformer, Jak II was a disappointment, but Ratchet and Clank is where the quality is. Best pure 3D platforming/action games ever made, in my honest opinion.

Slim pickin's indeed...
Only games I can think of are Zelda, Final Fantasy XII, and Silent Hill 5, assuming it's not a PS3 game...
God of War sounds like it's worth picking up, however between work, being lazy, and World of Warcraft, I don't have much time to play games...

I just read this part again.
There are only two game mechanics that will make me HATE a game more than "squad based gameplay", those being "card battle" and "nascar."

Let me see, games I want to play/beat before I don't have any time left:
All the Zelda games (actually, I'll be playing those for ever I think).
The DS. I'm gonna buy it after I've had my finals of this period. There are a few games for this thing that I have to play.
Can't think of much else..... I've lost interest in a lot of games.

Haven't played it but I heard they optimized it for the ps2 so the graphics are sucky and pussified it because everyone claimed the first was too hard.
Rent first.

Haha that's great, they ruined it for the PS2 democratics?
No wonder the PS2 version is always cheaper. For some reason I get so close to buying it, but then I don't.
One of these days I should pick up the next Gamecube version I see.

Developers who port from one system to another are usually lackadaisical in their work. Besides, we all know the PS2's Emotion Engine is among the hardest things to develop for. Let's hope with new cell processor for the PS3 using XML and C++ languages will brighten things up.
PS2 has the largest at home audience, so they port for the money and to reach more people...

Yeah, the family also has a PC though, which I occasionally use. ^_^

So is the Gamecube version easier also? I wasn't going to get the PS2 version. Might as well rent it though anyway, once I beat a game I never play it much again. Although since the Revolution will be Gamecube compatible, maybe I should buy it so I can enjoy it years from now.
I have a couple question about World of Warcraft and I didn't know where to ask them. And I want it for this generation.
How much is it monthly?
Um, well that's actually it.

No no no, they optimized it for ps2, so the graphics on all versions are only up to ps2 standards, and the game is easier overall.
VJ1 was made for gamecube, and then ported down for ps2.
And on a side note, anybody know what Joe whistles while he's air-dribbling a bomb in the ps2 version? I'm curious.

Um, well that's actually it.I think $15 for 1 month, or $39 for 3 months. Something like that...
And first month free. :)
