I started working on this yesterday and I finished the front design today.

I'll post my progress as I get more done. I'm currently working on a side view that will show the ergonomic finger slots and the side triggers. I'm also working on a lid that slides down over the front of the machine, so that you can protect the screen if your prone to accidents, like myself. Or if you would rather not deal with it, and your like Null and never scratch screens, you can just take the lid off and leave it off.

I'm also working on a top and bottom view that will show all the ports this thing is going to have.

I'm very excited about this, because it's the first thing I've made in photoshop that is 100% mine. No renders or anything. I made it ALL.

I'm calling it the Microsoft XO because the screen is round. I was just setting around the other day when I realized that my field of vision isn't a rectangle, it's a circle. So that's what the screen should be.

Beneath the screen is a battery life indicater, which glows when the system is turned on.

Beneath that is a green microphone.

The two circle things that look a little like analog sticks aren't. They are felt touch pads. They work exactly the same, except you run your fingers over them. I thought this would be better so that the lid can slid on top, and so that you don't accidently break an analog stick while carrying it with you, because analog sticks are easy to mess up.

There are two HUGE speakers on the bottom, with a subwoofer in between them. The final design will have a way to turn it off if you don't want it.

Sorry if my watermark degrades the quality...I just don't want it stolen.

Also, there are some rough edges and points I am going to fix.

I moved the top felt pad down, used a brush to add a more 3 dimensional quality, and I increased the size of the screen. Also decreased the number of watermarks. heh.

how exactly would a person go about holding this thing in place while playing? It looks like the buttons and d-pad are unreachable in a sense.

I like the concept, but it doesn't look like i'd be able to play something like that, with the controls being so far in the middle.

I think I need to crop a little off the left side, but they really aren't that far into the middle. The sides are rounded for one thing.

Your hands go on either side, slightly beneath the top felt pad.

You must have tiny tiny hands if you can't reach that far. This thing is supposed to be approximatly life size.

Does the gradient I put on it not make the sides look kind of rounded? :(

*edit
Actually, I don't think I need to crop the left side, I just need to move the top felt pad to the left a little.

Screen may need to be bigger as well.

i dunno if anyone would buy it with a very weird loopy name printed repeatedly all over it. :P

I said I was sorry about that!

hahaha

Vamp, a little tip, when doing concept art, or any kind of realistic airbrushing, you dont want to use preset gradients. If you want to add a feel that it's rounded, airbrush around the sides with a slightly transparent white, contoured with the shape. The current gradient just goes straight down.

And now you've inspired I to do a Microsoft XO concept.... do I have your permission to do so?

I love your creation! The circle screen is a great idea and your theory behind it makes sense. I wish I could try that in real life to see if using a circular screen works. Maybe if I draw a circle on one of my DS screens and color the outside with a black marker, I'll get an idea of how it would work out. The touch pads are cool too. They'd probably work similar to the iPod's sensor wheel. I support the flip lid idea because I like to keep my screens in perfect condition. The subwoofer is a welcomed addition, since that hasn't been put in a handheld before. And the bass sounds that it outputs could cause an unintentional rumble, thus giving you an innovative built-in rumble pack too ^_^

The only thing I might suggest is moving the left touch pad down on the left side of the D-Pad. That might feel better. I've held my hands up against the screen though and your configuration appears to work fine also.

I also like how your battery indicator is much more specific about displaying exactly how much battery power is left. I would only suggest replacing the red indicator color with just black so as to upkeep the black and green theme of Xbox.

This is a great job for being your very first creation built from 100% scratch. I am proud of you. :)

Hey, no hijacking of the thread, get your own!

Anyway, it looks nice, but there is something about it I just can't put my finger on...I don't know. I think the best words to describe it is "scrap book effect". Parts of it looked like they were just stuck together...

But I'm back with an update!

Ouch... ya know how long that'd take me?

Take a look at the ice dragon I rendered

http://dj-flipside.deviantart.com

That took me 2 days.
