View Full Version : Which GFX card?
I was going to get a X800 Pro but for $50 cheaper i just saw i could get a GeForce 6800 GT,
now the 6800GT performs according to benchmarks slightly better then the X800 Pro,
And i can turn the 6800GT into a 6800 Ultra with a bios flash/overclock, but i can turn the x800 pro into an x800 XT PE with a bios flash also, then the x800 XT would perform slightly higher then the 6800 ultra. lol
but the 6800gt has the pixel shaders 3.0 which the x800's dont, so when games start using that later down the road, the 6800gt is going to do a bit more for me then.
right now im leaning towards the 6800GT, any opinions?

I live in your hand, so I can't really suggest anything at this point... you need to move me up to your mind again.

I must warn you, I do carry dual kodachi's.... so if you try anything funny I will prick you on your toe!
LoL.... anyways..... get a PSP first.. trust me, it's worth it.
Look at my Location now
<~~~~~~
UNDER my foot.
dont think you get a free ride ontop.
and no, would be pointless for me to get a psp first, i wouldnt use it. i'd like wipeout, but i wouldnt be spending the money on many new games, i really only want a psp to play old snes games and such on a handheld. plus play em online on a handheld. hehe

I'd go with the 6800GT as well. To me it sounds like a better buy at $50 cheaper.

well, since i'm an ATI fan, and i could get it with an ATI-employee discount (my co-worker's husband is a manager at ATI:p) i would go with the X800.....buuuut if i wasn't an ATI fan, i would go with the 6800GT...so in conclusion i would suggest you get the 6800GT.

Are you planning on AGP or PCI Express? Get an X800XL, its the BEST deal out there right now (seriously) and its not that expensive (dont know exact pricing but its comparable)
i'd like a deal but im more interested in power, i've looked at a x800xl everyone i saw is still around the same price as the x800pro, and im still leaning towards the 6800gt, expecially with its PS 3.0 support.
and its AGP sadly, i know i can get a better deal with the PCIe's but my computer right now is still way to powerful to warrent buying a new motherboard and such, PCIe will obviously be on the next system i build. but this ones got a good few more years before i make it into a tivo unit for my living room and build a new one.

x800XL is about the same price but believe me, its better then the x800Pro. I believe the Pro is 12 pipeline and the XL is 16 pipeline (I think its just a downclocked x800XT which you could adjust if you want to ;) )
But I believe also the x800XL has an AGP counterpart. Not sure if its widely available but I can see where you would want PS3.0 support. Makes a difference but for me,3.0 support hasnt been widely accepted yet but its getting there so when Ati gets their 3.0 cards out, I'm snatching it up as by then it should be more widely used and known. BUt thats just me probably :p
well i'm gunna keep my eye open on deals and such, but its going to be a couple months before i buy a gfx card now. I couldnt help it, my wallet kinda just opened up and bought a psp, i tried to fight it, i did :p But i'll stick with my 9600xt for a bit longer.
i'll keep in mind the tips tho as i look around.
