America's Nintendo Power magazine has shed some more light on the on-line capabilities of the DS with the revelation that GameSpy will facilitate the console's online wireless multi-player offering. Already a major player in the world of PC-gaming networks, GameSpy promises a simple set-up and free connection worldwide, providing there's a wireless Internet hotspot within range.

The progression from a local wireless network to worldwide, according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's GDC address, will be easy, with similar technology employed. Developers are expected to receive their dev kits before E3 in May, and from then onwards, we can expect a welter of exciting news and previews before the worldwide arrival of true on-line gaming for the DS, expected late in the year.

and in other news... Silicon Knights and Factor 5, seem to be going towards Xbox 360 next gen

Is it a surprise that developers leave Nintendo? It's too much of a risk to sign with a console that your almost in the dark about. No REAL specs of it, no dev kits yet..

Microsoft and Sony have already signed big developers because they all know what they are capable of. Even if Revolution releases as a great console, it would be already too late considering developers are under hefty contracts with Micro and Sony.

This is great news! Nintendo and GameSpy will make a great team. I just hope the news of a free, revolutionary, worldwide DS gaming network doesn't stifle the accomplishments that Sony has worked to acheieve with their PSP.

its not really a team, gamespy supports anything they can, they had the xbox games that run thro the tunnel software on there.

which is why the other programs will show ds stuff too then, like the all seeing eye :)
