...would GameCube be selling how it is now or would people call it utter crap? Nintendo has a history of great games but let's say GameCube was Nintendo's first console. Would you really buy it based on what its been offering? Or would you lean more towards the other two consoles? Think about it...

No, I would still buy it. I like the games that have come out for Gamecube a lot. Next question.

If they were the new guy and they had the games they had out now and we didn't know anything about how Nintendo and their second party games are always good quality and such, then no, I would probably just stick to my PS2 and not even think about gamecube...

As it is now, there's only 1 game I can think of that I REALLY want, and that's Rogue Leader... along with one other game I kinda want, which is wave race, but I havn't been in much of a racing kinda mood lately... I want another rush :(

Hmm.....

It depends. If Nintendo were the new guy but doing the exact same things as they are now the GCN would probably be ignored. But I'm sure they would do things differently if they were new so its kind of hard to tell.

The only reason that I want some games on the GCN is because of their past games of the same series. So, I probably wouldn't give the GCN a second glance if it were the "new guy".

You have to think about a lot of things in this question...

If Nintendo was new, and did the exact same thing (advertizing etc) Gamecube would have been dead already... why?

1) Nintendo didn't pay for third party support like Microsoft, and Gamecube wouldn't have gotten half of the support it has now.

2) People would judge Nintendo by there first party games... Luigi's Mansion would not be the record holder for most launch sales...

3) Nintendo's main games are sequals... Smash Bros, Rouge Leader, Waverace, NBA Courtside, Etc... If Nintendo was the new guy making these games, these game would be considerd a Joke, like Ampped, NFL Fever, and NBA Inside Drive for Xbox.

4) Nintendo's advertizing campaing was weak... if you lived in a city with a Cube club, more power to ya, but 95% of the country doesn't even know what the cube clus are, and they will probably will never know... They needed a better place for Hype (Taco Bell maybe? ;))

But I dunno, if Nintendo was the new guy, there advertizements and games would have been a lot different... it would have been a lot more like Xbox... and Nintendo would have spent more money...

Imagine if Nintendo was the new guy? Super Smash Bros Melee would be looked upon as kiddy and weird looking with all those short fat plumbers and weird looking animal things. Oh, we can't forget the big big gorilla!

After thinking thsi through for a bit, I've decided that this thread is impossible. If Nintendo's a new guy then we have to of course figure what the gaming industry would be without Nintendo until now. It probably would not exist. Or if it did it only be a small thing that only a few people liked. The games would not be nearly as developed technologically as they are now because there would be no motivation to push systems to as much as they can. Games would probably be worse, loess customers means less money for development. Different consoles would be out, maybe even only one, or none.

There's no way Nintendo could be a new guy. So I deem this thread impossible.

*cough*

Well, if Nintendo was the "newbie" I would still buy Gamecube. The reason being that i love lots of the games that are coming out on it. Like all the RE games, Zelda, Mario, Starfox, Metroid.

Good question. I think I would've gone with XBox had I not known what Nintendo was capable of.

Do you really think so? I do not think that RE would be anywhere close to a GCN. People would look at Zelda and say "what the hell is this little cell shaded dwarf. Give me something else". People would look at Mario and say "That guy is too fat and short to do all of those jumps". And Metroid would be regarded as a HALO wanna be.

If Nintendo were the newest competitors, I would have probably grown into senior citizenship and contracted arthritis,( Thus stopping me handling the controller) before the GameCube arrived in the UK.

If Nintendo was the noob, they couldn't get people excited with Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

But... My most anticipated games are mostly coming to GCN.

I agree with Joeiss...

The market has changes drastically since Nintendo first entered/dominated. It's now more about "cool-looking/mature" games than anything else. A reason games like Mario will survive even with such an altered attitude toward games and what makes them great, is because most people known that when it comes to Mario, they can overlook all that kiddy mess(for most people), because it has a long and great history, revolutionizing the industry almost every time.

Although Nintendo is constantly bashed for "kiddy games/weird games," there is no denying that their superior track record helps soften the blow. As a result, even some of the same short-sighted people who think games should all be "cool and mature," still are open to most Nintendo games(like Mario) because the well-known quality of these games, and their legacy, helps them to overlook that "kiddy" factor. A "new" Nintendo wouldn't have that benefit.

If Nintendo were the new guys... they'd be pretty much assed-out when dealing with those kind of gamers. Since there are plenty of them, Nintendo would be assed-out in general.

I guess I'd still buy their console since I'm least concerned with how "mature" or "cool" a game looks. However, even I wouldn't have much faith in them, since they'd have no track-record. I mean, that's why most of us are Nintendo fans in the first place... they provide us with some of the best games ever made, and have done that on many occasions.

PS: Some of you forgot just one thing. We have to remember that if Nintendo were new, games like Mario, Metriod, Zelda, Starfox, etc, wouldn't be as antiscipated as they are...they'd just be your everyday in-development game that you look forward to because they are LOOKING good(visually). They'd have as much antiscipation as say...Malice... you'd know next to nothing about them cept for the fact that they look nice. With that said, you definitely won't be as confident/happy about GameCube's future as you are now. Think about it...

Actually, those games probably wouldn't even exist. Nintendo would have a completely different strategy because they or their titles would not be known among gamers so they would probably either go to a more mature look or fail miserably.

What people aren't seeing is that if Nintendo were the new guy they wouldn't have been around 16 years ago.

Wow, how long did that take you to figure out that if Nintendo was new, they wouldn't have been around 16 years ago? That is a remarkable discovery.

haha, go easy on Link Joeiss.

I think he was implying that judging from some of the replies, as obvious as it may seem, some people still aren't taking it into account.

At least, that is what he better be implying... :hmm:

I know, I just like to be a jackass. ;)

But I think that he meant to say what you said. I think that some people here think that they would have thought that Metroid and Zelda would be amazing, but they are just lying to themselves. GCN would be crap with the line up they have right now.

Yeah! I wouldn't buy it if it was the new guy. Cause thier games would be sequels.

Well, I gues I wouldn't have bought it when it first came out. I would've waited to see how it turned out to be as a system. I always get the chance to play the games one way or another. But seeing how thing's have gone. I would want to buy it. And would buy it, because:A) I just have to have Resident Evil B)I think the games that have come out so far are great. So, let's say that right now I would be saving money for one.

You read my post wrong...

I mean if Waverace, NBA Courtside, Smash Bros, and Rouge Leader were origanal games, from a new developer, they would be a Joke.

Just like how Microsoft's exclusive games were a joke... I think Nintendo would have to release a better game in order to be recognized... Kinda like how Microsoft released Halo...

Ok! Got the point. Yeah, that's true. But I still think RS2 would've done well. And the rest of the games are decent none the less.
