I know this is totally off the wall, but my cat died today. His name was Shadow.

This is a pic I took of him. He's the black one. Now here's what sucks. I hate cats with a passion. But when I saw this little one when he was just a baby back in the summer, he struck me different from the other cats. He was almost human. He loved the company of actual people unlike all the cats in this area. He made friends with any human and any animal and my brother and I took him in as our pet. We loved him a lot.
Last night he wasn't feeling well, so we began to get worried and my brother would then take him to a vet today. When I got home from school, my dad informs me that he died on the way to the vet.

It was truly heart breaking. And thats why I call him the only cat I've ever liked. :(

Has something like this ever happened to any of you? :\

Sorry to hear that, Blue. I've lost pets before, but it was always expected.

While my family doesn't have any cats my grandma does and it shares the same friendly characteristics that you describe Shadow as having. She adopted it from the local pound. I don't hate cats at all but I'm allergic to them. I get watery eyes and severe sneezing.

You're lucky to have captured a picture of him. Know that Shadow is now in peace and no longer sick. And cherish the memories and pictures you have with him. Take care, friend.

That sucks dude. My childhood cat died a few years back and he was one of those super special cats..and it really does suck.

Do you know the reason why your cat died?

One of the most traumatic things that has ever happened to me is losing my pet dog a few years ago. I couldn't help crying for a long time, very traumatic. So I know what you're going through, sorry about that. :(

I grew up with a dog my parents had since before I was born. She died when I was 15. Felt so empty and weird. Never before had I been in my house without my dog being there. Was such a sad end too...she went deaf...had arthritis...and actually began to 'rot' while she was alive...flies would try to eat her ears...had to be put to sleep...

Then such as in your case my budgie got sick and was going to take him to the vet the next day...but he died before I woke up. A chunk of myself died. He was more a part of me than a pet. More like an extension of myself. And then I had to bury him. Ripping up roots in my yard for hours just to get a hole deep enough. He died right before I went to college. I'm sure he would have just became more bitter and depressed without me being there...would bite anyone but me...I miss the little guy.

This thread is already hitting home with me as I have a 13 year-old Dachshund back at home that I've had since first grade, and I know that he could go any day, and that thought is just devastating. All sympathies to you BLueFire. These are the highs and lows of being a pet owner. :(

My dog died ohhhhh over the summer I think... Had her since kindergarten...

She started breathing funny, then didn't want to leave my room (didn't want to move at all)... Took her to the vet, there was obviously a problem but we didn't put her to sleep right away, we were going to probably in a couple of days...

So that night I figure she'll be there the next day I say nighty nighty, and when my mom came in the room in the morning to get clothes (keeps some in my closet since my parents don't have one) she decides to wake me up and throw in the fact that "Our puppy died last night"...

Our house used to be a zoo... She was the last pet we had...

Yeah, I really hear you on this. I grew up with two cats that were ~8 years old when I was born. So I had them most of my childhood, but they died when I was about nine from Kidney failure. We had them on a special diet and everything, it just wasn't enough.

And then about seven years ago we had gotten a Dachshund. We had time to really enjoy it, she was just one of the best tempered dogs you could have. But one morning when my dad let it out, it followed my brother's scent down to the end of the drive way because he'd gone to school and a car hit it.

Your lives were written in a pair, sharing a life's high and low.
You are the mirror reflecting him, a cat named Shadow.
The life you breathe in each day, is the life he exhales.
But the ending of a story you never want to come...Efforts to no avail.
His spirit now forever lies in the sky.
Do not be afraid to shed a tear, and cry.
~ a poem for Shadow and Bluefire from Kyuzo

Rest in peace, and condolences Bluefire. I had an Iguana named Flash (he was really fast) for 5 years, and never could tell if he was sick. But eventually he bit the dust, and I forever remember that day, considering I didn't expect it.

Sorry again for your loss.

That cat looked nice. I'm sorry that he had to face an early end. That is rough, and I hope you are doing alright.

Aaargh. This brings up memories. :( I just shed a few tears for the dog that was with me until my 13th.

Last weekend a cat from the uncle of my girlfriend was put to sleep. :( She was really old for a farm cat (9 or something).... my girl and her mother had a really strong relation with her, even though she wasn't their cat.

It felt so bad to see my girl crying for the first time.

I'm sorry to hear that BF. It really was a special cat.
