Riddle me this guys. For some reason my tv tuner can record video, but for some reason, windows says that I don't have the correct codec to playback the file. I'm using just a normal mpeg-2 setting to record it.

But, for some reason, when I open it in WMP10, it says I don't have the correct codec to playback the file, but then it goes ahead and plays it anyway.

So it's not too big of a problem because I can still watch the stuff I record, but I want to edit it to remove commercials and it won't let me import it into a video editing program without the correct codec.

The wierd thing is that I never had this problem before, and I've had this card for 2 years. Recently I installed an Xvid codec, perhaps that is causing some problems?

Xvid has always had bugs relating to card captured video. It's a very unstable codec. DivX 5 is one of the best codecs out there.

Other than the stability of Xvid, I don't see any other problems. Codec stands for Compression Decompression. Since you can view your movie, the codec problem doesn't like in the decompression state. It's compression, thats disallowing you to edit. So it's most likely your Xvid Codec.
