This afternoon I bought Star Fox:Assault.

This evening I beat it.

I'm not kidding.

If you could see my face, you would know I am not kidding.

After I "finished" it I was left asking myself "um, what just happened? Is this really the Star Fox game we've all waited so long for?" SFA is pretty, no doubt about that. It got a substantial graphics boost from its N64 incarnation. As far as improvements go that is IT. The flying missions are broken up by pointless landmaster and on-foot missions which are more tedious than fun. The few flying missions that are present are buggy and lack polish. I feel sorry for anyone else who paid for this $50 tech-demo.

Agreed. It's a renter.

a star fox game being too short? shocker.

after the N64 one, (which was fun but WAY too short) i wisely stayed away from this one.

Yikes.

I was going to get this game too.

Maybe when it's $20, but not for $50, not after reading that.

Thanks, Neo.

(Now return it and pick up Kingdom Under Fire)

Does it have alternate paths like the N64 one did?

I didn't think it was that bad. The only thing I didn't like were the new voices for the characters. I love the Team Starwolf theme music.

I've beaten it through once and my only question is are there multiple routes you can take like in StarFox 64?

For example, in SF64, you always started at Corneria and ended in Venom but the places you could go in between these planets varied depending on certain things you did. The different routes also had varying difficulty.

lol as if....

There is only one path my friends, and it leads straight to mediocrity. You don't even have the solar system map like in SF64 so you have no idea where all these places are in relationship to one another.

Most of the music was a remix of old SF music, save one particularly odd trac which sounds like a spanish ballad.

Would gamestop let me do that?

I think you're referring to the Starwolf theme with the trumpet solo. That's the one I'm talking about. It's awesome.

Another thing I noticed was that the new StarWolf team member, Panther, seems like a rip-off of Puss in Boots from Shrek 2. They both have the Spanish mannerisms and voice. Kind of interesting. Although Panther is a black Panther so that kind of hides it...

how long did it take to run through the star fox 64 game.. 45 minutes? dont complain, i'm sure it's a good game, i'd buy it if i weren't still playing RE:4 and GT4....

i never really play a video game for very long periods of time, it'd still take me like 3 weeks to beat....

This game is really really really really mediocre. I beat it in 48 minutes, it's laughably easy, and the on-ground missions are incredibly boring.

Man did Namco do a piss poor job on this one.

Beware everyone! The gaming industry is going down the crapper due to the lack of innovation! Developers are shoving the same old recycled crap down our throats over and over again! Nintendo will save console gaming once again with the revolution, while Sony and Microsoft continue this trend of mediocracy!!

... But since that's NEXT-gen... a Star Fox lasting only 45 minutes? *sarcastic gasp*... You'll eat your SFA and you'll like it! >:<

I'm sure it's a great game, and to better show you the extent of it's grandness, I've made this horrible 3D mockup out of some old cans and construction paper...

Well, you can always try the "this doesn't work give me another one" and then take that one back to walmart, or you can just trade it in (i'm sure it's worth at least $30 still, KuF was only 20 last I saw it)

Actually I'm having second thoughts about taking it back. I loved the multiplayer on SF64 and I've heard the multiplayer here is much better. And I feel strangely compelled to get all the medals despite the pain.
