My ps2 has died.

It all happened one day (like today), when I was playing Mortal Kombat Deception. The game started glitching really badly, and the music stopped playing randomly and the load times started to become insanely long. And, the PS2 made these really really wierd noises the whole time I was playing. It wasn't coming out of my speakers, it was coming from the actually PS2. Kind of like a stuttering noise.

I took the game out and turned it off, and tried to play it again, and now when I put a game in (any game), it just sets there on the browser screen and makes stuttering noises. And I've waited long enough for it to cool down, and it still won't work.

Anyone know what's wrong with it, or how to fix it?

never had that problem before... open up the ps2... thats what i did when i started getting disc read errors.

you open it up and raise the lens reader closer to the actual cd

Sounds like its on its last legs. Call Sony if its under warranty and get a replacement if you did nothing wrong to it.

Has it taken any recent drops or damage, Vampyr?

That's the only thing I can think of. I would advise you to go with Jonbo's advice and see if you're elligible for a replacement under your warranty.

I got mine fixed last summer. Sony has some great customer service, I got it fixed free of charge, and now it works wonderfully.

My brothers was always screwed up, but he dropped it when he brought it over one time.

You would stick a disc in, and you would hear like, the CD starting, and stopping, and it would take 5 minutes to load a disc.

Yet he still uses it.

MMM....my Stereo stopped working. So I ripped the thing apart and tossed it. I suggest you research fixing the thing on the net, there are some good sites out there to fix it.

Under the 81 million tag, PS2 already has an astonishing software tie-in rate. If you're insinuating that the total number of owners is closer to, say, 60 million...that would make the tie-in ratio even more disgustingly amazing ;)

I belive the situation is known as "win-win"

and I suggest you clean your PS2, Vamp. find a website offering a tutorial on cleaning the system and do it at home. what kyuzo said, changing that little gear to make the lens closer to the disc, that can work too. First, I would try contacting Sony like Joeiss did.

Working in Gamestop and seeing the returns that I see I wouldn't be surprised if 1/4 of those numbers are replacement unit sales. There's no denying the fact that the PS2 is the shoddiest piece of video game hardware this generation (second goes to Pelican accessories) when you see the shear number of PS2's that are returned.

For every 100 PS2's I get back in for being defective I get maybe 20 Xbox's and 5 Gamecubes. That's not a fanyboy's opinion or rant. It's simply my experience working in a game retailing environment.

On a positive note, I've only seen one PS2 - Two come back in since it was sold.

No it is a fanboy's opinion.

You said something negative about the ps2..........you must be a fanboy. No ifs or buts. Ps2 = good...........GOOD

Jesus. It's come to the point where anyone says anything in either direction of the spectrum they get blasted. Okay, we all know which people have which preferences, but do we have to yell or be sarcastic with each other every single time a biased thing is said? This definitely is directed at you Stu because you are actually the most responsible one in all of these mini-arguments, but man, it's REALLY getting old.

definately directed at me? mini arguements? oh no!

honestly, I dont give a f*ck. Crash has been posting endless crap, and THAT's getting old. I'll have a little fun at his expense every chance I get. if you have a problem with it, that's good. maybe, just MAYBE, people will get the point and stop making topics that are absolutely meaningless, aside from the fact that it's baiting people like myself to make a sarcastic comment. so I do.

and how was bobcat's post not sarcastic? only my response to his post...ok, that right there doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

As long as I see people making anti-____ comments, I'll be glad to jump in and voice my opinion. Does it bother you? Well, sorry. I dont MEAN to bother people...I know some people are getting a laugh out of it.

Anyways, I'm on your side buddy. :)

This post was intended to help Vampyr fix his PS2. We don't need facts and opinions about PS2's dying out.

Thats what started the fire, and that's what gave everyone the idea that those were fanboy comments. I don't see them as Fanboy comments about PS2 being crappy hardware, but I don't see them as needed either. This topic was for Vampyr's PS2, and we didn't need statistics about the PS2 hardware.

My suggestion is to invest in the PStwo because that hardware is space saving and hasn't given me ANY problems. The ps2 I had from LAUNCH still hasn't given me problems either. I've had disc read errors, but whose PS2 doesn't. I fixed that problem a long time ago and the Old ps2 works fine.... the same PS2 from launch, and it sits beside my new PStwo.

The fact is that it is not a piece of crap hardware, the fact that it's getting very old, especially if you bought it back when it came out. Excluding used ones, because you know the risk of buying used consoles. The Ps2 is getting very old in terms of age, and if you haven't taken extra care for it, the age will eventually catch up with it. But like I said, I just moved my lens gear and it fixed everything. I've got 2 PS2's that work great.

For all the other cases... the ps2 is an old system... will be 5 years, this October.

If you're a PS2 owner, I would try to get it fixed if it's crapping out. Only reason is, you'll want to trade it in, towards a new PS3.... hehehe

My ps2 won't even turn on now.

I went away for the weekend for an Academic Team competition, and my dad and brother took the liberty of opening it up and trying to fix it.

So even if it had a warranty, it doesn't matter now.

MuGen

Oh boy.... that Void if Seal Broken sticker....

Warranty has been diminished. Best bet is to invest in the Pstwo... one of my better investments of the year...
