Check out the first pics and video of this amazing polygon-crunching engine for Game Boy Advance!

Rayight Studios, a developer in Italy currently working on Wings for Crawfish Interactive and a space-sim called Star Giants, has revealed a remarkable new polygonal 3D graphics engine called BlueRoses for the GBA.

The company has screenshots and video of the engine on their website (link above). The demos are presumably just for show, but they do cover some major genres: rally racing, flight sim, futuristic racing, and even survival horror!

According to the spec sheet at the website, the engine is capable of:

- Thousands of polygons in a single scene
- More than 3000 polygons per second with a 60% of screen coverage. (Note this performance are computed in an average situation of playing, - also considering input, AI and the needed processes for a game!)
- Motion capture animation
- Affine texture mapping
- Camera animation
- Skeletal animation
- Skinned characters
- Particle systems
- Texture animation support
- Possibility to mix 2d and 3d together having 3d polygonal scene with custom 3d sprite technologies already used in our current projects

...just to name a few. There's no word on when the first games made with BlueRoses will show up on the market, but we're trying to obtain more information on that and everything else pertaining to this technology.

Thanks to Chris Mayer for the tip!

I am totally speechless. Wow! If those pictures ran at a decent framerate, that would totally rock.

If you download the videos (and I think they are playable tech demos) you'll see that they run at at least 15 FPS.

:D

Beauty pictures. I cannot wait until these games are released.

What? 15 FPS??? What are normal GBA games running at?

Whoa.... gerrrrovyhttp://boards.harrypotter.warnerbros.com/emoticons/trippy.gif

BTW the videos all run on Quick Time (unfortunatly)
Number 1 = 550kb - focus agb. (Ford Focus)
Number 2 = 199kb - foreign angel. (RE type thing)
Number 3 = 519kb - fly. (flight, theres a helicopter too)
Number 4 = 1.75mb - warpout. (wipeout rip off)

Anyway hope that helps if u wanna dl.

Right then, I must say they all look pretty damn good, the warpout video was a little jumpy and showed a lot of pop up but I am guessing the technology can be imperoved further. Still this is good news, I just wonder how quickly games like this would guzzle batteries though.

Good find Jason1 you earned yourself a cacti beer, on me.

EDIT 2: Darn white background... meh:unsure:

I was playing tenchu last night on the PSX, and I thought to myself, the GBA could get pretty close to those type of screens, especially after looking at this screen
http://www.gamesradar.com/upload_images/news/space1/raylight/resi.jpg

If you have played tenchu, you would know that after looking at the screen above, it would be pretty possible. You can see texture and light maps, and there's atleast 3 characters on screen (with one character on screen mostly), which is pretty much like what tenchu is like.

Yeah I agree, and unlike tenchu it isnt all black in the background.

BTW; Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins is better IMO.

Quicktime is much better than WMP. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. You're computer is probably just screwed. I refuse to download Windows Media Player because everything on the web is Quicktime. Err, I'm mad.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my PC whatsoever, it's just that, quicktime is crap.
And not everything is quicktime if you download from a source such as morpheus.

Ric is right, quicktime is really crap.

Joeiss

They are both crap. Why? Because my computer is crap, and half the time videos don't even work, on Quick Time, or Windows Media Playa.

I'm gonna resign from this argument because I don't want online video players to put on us bad terms Ric.

I hope they really make an RE game on AGB like that... and it could have neato connectivity between RE4 or RE0... or both :p

Maybe the AGB game could be taking place at the same time as RE4 or something, and when you're playing the gamecube game, you could have the AGB plugged into the NGC and you might get a couple extra messages from chris over the "radio" (AGB) that might add to the storyline slightly or open up a couple optional little things you have to do in the game...

About GBA/NGC connectivity, I think one of the biggest ways to have both games be playable seperately, BUT still have some really good extras is to make games that take place during the same time... Maybe you play as one character in the NGC version in his own little game, and in the AGB version, get to play as someone who you meet up with from time to time in the NGC version... kinda like a claire/leon type of thing in RE2... just not quite as similar :p

Or make it so there are two 100% completely different places... like maybe in RE4, there is a special ops team that deals with one umbrella lab facility place, and in the AGB RE game, another team is in a seperate lab... both at the same time so there could be really good interactions and other special stuff, but still not REQUIRING you to own both games AAAAND making it so it's actually worth buying both games (not like that FF unlimited thing where there's an NGC game, and then the exact same thing on SNES so you could play it on the go )

anyways I kinda wandered off topic there... but still those 3D pictures there got me thinkin' about how they could actually make a GOOD RE game on AGB ;) I dunno, 2D just doesn't seem right for it

So basically I think the 3D thing is neat :D

k bye...
