Local H should win best rock album of the year.
The Grammys...eh.
The last worthy album nominated was Lateralus.
grammys are a joke.
more like a popularity contest rather then real talent awards.

can anyone say its just a song, not a sworn oath? seriously, all of a sudden bands have to mean everything they say in songs?

Actually, I happen to like Green Day. I was a huge Kerplunk fan, and Insomniac was a helluva CD.
I just find it ironic that they jumped on this whole complain-about-American bandwagon, even if American Idiot is better then just about every other CD that takes blatant stabs at America and Bush and all that other junk.
I have American Idiot, and I listen to it, and I respect it in a sense. On the other hand, I don't take it the same way I take albums like Kerplunk, and I can't stand the new-age Green Day fans.
Fan or not.....but yeah.

there's a franz ferdinand song entitled "michael" that talks about how sexy this guy is... that doesn't mean the members of FF are gay/strictly gay.

All the evidence you need that the Grammy's are a joke is to look at the Metal category. There is absolutely no reason that Shadows Fall should not be nominated.

Yes there is.
Yes there is.
And what reason would that be? :D

To Null:
See, American Idiot won best rock album of the year. That's retarded. Now, like I said, American Idiot isn't a bad album, it's pretty good. BUT, I can think of several albums that go before it.
The new Monster Magnet album for one, and then, Local H - Whatever Happened To P.J. Soles.
Of course, I doubt many people here know who Local H is. Oh well.

"The Cattiff Choir" should have been nominated instead. Nick Brooks can sing.

Why? They're the best post-grunge band, minus the Melvins that are borderline everything.
Oh well, music is so opinion based. That's what makes it so fun!
Everyone gets cookies. Except for the eskimo kids.

The Grammys are terrible. As the Simpsons said, "we don't consider the Grammy an award at all."

dunno. never liked em much, they always seemed like just one of the group, never thier own style to really set them off.

At least Green Day had the best performance. They've got talent, whether you like their pop-punk image and whether you like that they perform for people or not.

I would much rather see a group like Green Day win than an Ashlee Simpson or other pop idol. At least Green Day has done their time and started off like every other band instead of getting in based on looks and/or connections alone.

I didnt see Green Day's performance, but I really enjoyed Kanye's/John Legend's.

I like seeing all the artists interact together regardless of whether I like their music or not. I recognize most of the music that was played because my sister is always listening to it on the computer. In my opinion, I thought it was kind of arrogant that Prince couldn't show up to receive his award. I guess they don't know in advance but if they're being nominated they should really try to be there unless it's an emergency.

Yeah, you're right about that people should have been notified before so that they could have showed up instead of un-attending the awards show. I didnt like all the country music and soul stuff but the tribute to Ray Charles was cool even though im not that big of a fan of his music.

Not that the specific people you are referring to are not guilty of getting in on looks and connections, but you seem to think (in spite of my efforts) that no one has "done their time" unless they are in a rock band. If someone is remotely pop you automatically label them as not deserving. It doesn't seem fair.
PS: The way Ashlee Simpson got it is not deserving, I do believe that.

To me, the grammies are as political as the oscars so it's not even worth wasting time arguing about it

true none of its worth arguing about. I dont mind the oscars tho, they award good movies majority of the time. that usually cant be said for the grammys tho, its amazing some of the horrible stuff that wins a grammy somtimes. as i said before, just a big popularity contest.

I respect Green Day for their talent and their drive, but as soon as they decided to include politics in their songs, I stopped listening to them, and thats just me. So, no rebuttle is required for that statement.
On the other grammy decisions.... joke... J... O...K .. E...
why? Best New Artist should've been SOMETHING CORPORATE. Probably none of you have heard of them, but new artist none the less. Their music is amazing...and definitely better than Maroon 5... and of course... thats IMO.

I don't know......I give bands credit where it's due. I'd rather see bands that have more talent and orginality win Grammys, but if you are a band that rips other bands off but play entertaining music, then whatever. Let's not forget that even "rock legends" like Zeppelin "borrowed" their fair shair of riffs.
I like what sounds good......original, contrived, over-produced, or not. I'll give credit where it's due, but I won't not listen to it.

something corporate aren't new.
no offense or anything. they're a pretty good band, better lyrics than music.
