Saw this movie Saturday. I liked it but maybe that's because I'm a sci-fi goer. I admit, the creators lose focus of the book they are supposed to be portraying and get carried away when they travel 800,000 years into the future. Kinda like The Mummy Returns . Has great potential but it goes in the wrong hands. You think for being created by the grandson of H.G. Wells it would have been a little "closer to home." Oh well. Go see it. :)

GameMaster's Rating: :) Plot becomes far-fetched and loses focus. The smart, gentle professor loses his intelligence and begins fighting monsters with unexpected skill. It's still entertaining.

I'll probably rent it if I see it at all. Most of the things I've heard haven't really been that good.

80% of movies 'based' on books aren't actually based on the book. That more or less just means they're going to take the general concept of the book, and turn it into a movie.

Some movies would be horrifically boring if they were based exactly on the book, and others would be impossible to pull off in front of the cameras.

Taking a movie in a negative light after discovering it didn't exactly follow the book is a bad idea. Don't go to those kinds of movies (Ones based on books, that is) expecting to see what you read about.

Maybe the same general plot (And there's a lot of sway in that), some of the same characters, and possibly the same settings (Give or take a bit).

Movies based on books aren't usually based on books. It's mainly just to help with reputation and publicity. (And think about it; if a book was hugely successful, and a movie "based" on that book came out, that movie would turn in tremendous profits solely based on the fans of the book, nevermind everyone else who thinks the movie looks cool anyway).

Come to think of it, the same is often true for movies based on true stories...

Yeah, this does not follow H.G. Wells' at all. Then again, I red (pun intended) the book in fifth or sixth grade so maybe I've forgotten some. Movies are different from their predecessors, books, because their purpose is to entertain the large masses; not just the small proportion of us literate people who enjoy a good read. That's why fighting scenes are included. :D
