View Full Version : Mouse Trouble

For the past week or so my mouse has been giving me Hell.

It's the left click portion that is screwed up, and it's really beginning to get on my nerves. It's a fairly old mouse (about 3 years), so I'm thinking it may be time to get a new one, but I'm not sure.

The problem is that sometimes when I click it, it doesn't register the click and at all, and I have to click it over and over. Other times when I click it, it registers about a bajillion clicks at once. So if I try to exit out of one FireFox tab, they every single one go kaplooey.

Are there any methods for cleaning and fixing a mouse? I've tried cheese, but that didn't work well. >_>

If it really is a dead mouse, then does anyone have any brands they would recommend to replace it? I would like a cheap yet effective one, and I don't really care if it's wireless or not.

My mouse is an IBM and it is 3 years old and still works great. I recommend it... I don't know what the cost is though (my parents bought mine)

Is it a boy mouse or a girl mouse? AKA, does it have a ball? :p

Male.

Which is now making me uncomfortable touching it. >_>

well with a ball mouse, you can either open it or take outs it um, ball. and erm um, ok, thats just getting weird.

Anywho, you can see if theres any crud that might be making the button not work right inside of it.

However honestly man, just go get a optical mouse. Best mouse ever made = logitech MX500 or MX510

Thanks for the help guys.

I opened up the thing and took out the ball, and um,....shined a flashlight into the hole and I could see some dust and stuff...so I blew into it.... >_>

It seemed to have improved it's performance at least a little. If it gets too bad I'm going to buy one of the ones that you guys mentioned. +reps all around.

I was gonna mention what Null said. Check for any "gunk" under the mouse button. Over the years it can build up and you dont even notice it.

Yeah, I found some interesting stuff in there. Some of my hair, some lint, some spare change, my long lost sock, a wrist watch, and something a previous female friend and I thought we had lost forever.

I will be wondering what this is the rest of the day.

.. :Puke:

Anyway, I have an optical mouse, NOT wireless. Don't want to lose my mouse, and who needs a wireless one anyway? They just cost you loads of batteries.... :D

I always clean ball mouses, there's always a lot of dust on the wheels inside the thing. If you clean it, it runs much smoother. But that's not what your problem was.
