That's a pretty decent launch list, but I still don't think it justifies the cost of the handheld. I'll consider the purchase of a PSP come one or two price drops.

No actually, that's launch day...

If it counted "3-4 months", the GTA game that's in the works (among others) would be on it too...

However you're right about 49.99... Sony's own games will be 39.99... And maybe some third party games... But a lot will cost 49.99... Basically the same situation there is with PS2...

I thought I heard something about the PSP itself being expensive and the games being relatively cheap. D'oh.

Being a handheld has nothing to do with it.

It has to do with being part of Sony.

What was the price of the PS2 at launch? 700 bucks.

What was it months after that? 300 or so.

Its all about getting back your inital cost of making them. Some people wont buy it until its cheaper, but their are diehard fans, or people that just want it that cant wait it out, and have to have it the week it comes out.

And those are the people that are baffled when the price drops months later. Astounding, No?

PS2 was never 700 at launch, some crappy stores might of only sold it in bundles that added up to 700, but it wasnt anywhere near that price officially

anyone could of easily got it at its launch price of 300.

Well they're called launch titles, and IGN has that same list and says

"Sony also announced the preliminary list of launch titles, to be released simultaneously with the handheld:"

before it, so yeah... Seems to make it sound like titles that shall be released on launch day...

http://psp.ign.com/articles/584/584983p1.html

Plus EBgames has all the titles there listed as shipping on launch day... Of course game retailers aren't always the most reliable of sources...

So all signs so far point to those titles all being availble on launch day... With even more titles not listed there being released in the few weeks and months following...

I actually got a chance to play Lumines (from the makers of Rez and Space Channel 5), and man is it wicked. If only people knew of its awesomeness, it could easily sell systems. Impressions from people who imported aren't any different either, one guy I know claimed it to be the best handheld game he'd ever played.

So yeah, anyone interested in buying a PSP at some point or another, definitely check out Lumines.

Not always. They were $49.99 up until about a year ago or so (I think) then Sony said all first party games will be $39.99

The IGN article states that those titles will be launched SIMULTANEOUSLY which means together with the unit. Therefore I presume they'd be available the day the PSP launches. The only reason I know this is because I went to EBgames the other day to pre-order the PSP Value Pack, and EBGames is offering pre-orders a free game along with the game it comes with and Spider Man 2 on UMD.

I asked the sales man and supposedly the Launch game that comes with the Value pack is Metal Gear Acid. I will have 2 games and 1 movie on my PSP when it launches for only $230! (i put $20 down on it)

Honestly speaking though... a lot of the members here who are waiting for price drops are usually the ones who can't afford it on their own, or aren't Sony supporters. For me $250 comes in 2 days, but that info is supposed to be confidential so... meh...

Anywho... I pre-ordered a PSP and will be getting 2 games and 1 launch movie, which I am now excited about. I shall be getting the psp on launch day.

Edit: forgive my repetitiveness.......

I have not heard anything about the value pack coming with a free game...

And you'd think that if it did come with one (especially one with the Metal Gear title) that'd be the first thing any article would mention...

Maybe the EBgames guy doesn't know what he's talking about...

Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...

I'll look into it...

It might be an Ebgames exclusive, considering that they are giving out a free game for pre-orders, they might include the Metal Gear as part of the value pack.

I went to GameStop and asked about the pre-order, and they said that the ValuePack comes with all accessories, but no free stuff on their end, so I preordered with EB.

EDIT: come to think of it, it might be like a Metal Gear Acid demo.... like they always have demo's in the new system.
