Friend Needs Help

My friend just bought a USB adapter for his phone, an Audiovox 8910. Everything is fine, except for the final step of the installation. This is exactly what it says "When Windows finished installing the software, open the "SYSTEM" from "Control Panel" * to check the serial port number assigned by Wndows. The select a proper COM for the software that you are using"

Wow, that's a bad set of instructions. Let's see if I can help with easy to follow step by step instructions.

#1. Plug the phone in.
#2. Open the start menu and select "Control Panels"
#3a. Change your view settings to classic if it's not already.
#3b. Double click the "System" icon.
#4. Select the "Hardware" tab.
#5. Select "Device Manager"
#6. Check for your device in any of the drop down menus (probably "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" or "Ports (COM & LPT)")

Once you've found the device, look around in its properties and see if you can find a COM # assigned to the device. If you see one, enter it in the options menu of whatever software came with his phone. If you don't see one, I'm totally baffled.

Oh, and tell'em to get a Mac while you're at it... :D
