Looks like we might get a glimpse of Sony's PS3 earlier than we expected - in a financial conference call last week Sony execs suggested that the next-gen PlayStation will be playable at E3 in May.

The announcement could mean that all three next-gen consoles - Xbox 2, Nintendo Revolution and PS3 - go head-to-head in an epic clash of the console titans at the world's biggest videogames showcase.

Sony confirmed that the PS3 will appear in playable form rather than just showing video footage of the console's capabilities, although the scope of this playability was not confirmed. We could be looking at actual games, or Sony may choose to show off interactive tech demos that demonstrate the PS3's power.

Here is a link to the full story: Playable at E3 the PS3 (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=114396)

I never expected a playable version of PS3 at the E3... this means they will be able to show it's true power rather then show a video of what it is capable of.

I'm excited for all 3 systems, this is going to be a heated battle at E3.

Now if Nintendo would confirm that their console is gonna be playable, I'll resist being giddy as a school girl :p

But it's gonna be nice to see the next gen of consoles playable this year. It kind of sucks that this gen. of hardware is being phased out too fast :(

I also want to see the Revolution playable. No offense to the Microsoft fans, but I can careless about the Xbox 2. It's about Nintendo and Sony for me at the E3.

I want to see all three consoles duke it out at E3. I think it will be a very heated fight at least between PS3 and Xbox 2, but Nintendo, depending on the cool-ness of their "Revolution", could turn the tables on both of them.

I'm fairly sure that all three systems will be playable (at least on dev hardware) at E3. I'm very excited to see what can be done with next generation hardware in motion.

I don't think Nintendo's revolution will be enough to overcome its stigma of being a kiddy company. No kid wants to say to their friends "Yeah man, I got a Nintendo biatches!" They want to tell them they have an Xbox or a PS2.

With PS3 supposedly behind in the development process, it will look very bad if it is playable and Revolution isn't.

I think Nintendo is trying to shake that image with Revolution by basically just giving in to whatever demands gamers make (or at least ones with half a brain). Its a good/bad scenario but since people are so self centered that they won't pick something because it "sounds kiddy", then by all means, be that way. It won't affect me enjoying games.

i dont see nintendo trying to shake that image at all. infact, i expect to see the same game plan from them as always.

not saying the EVolution wont be good, it could infact be better then the others. but nintendo will just keep on doing it how they always have stratagy wise.

Nintendo may be considered kiddy, but all I'm saying is if they are touting playable VR-like games, then that will surely be the highlight of the show.

Not likely, but who likes to think about likely anyways?

The PS3 is actually going to be revealed at an event in March, I think it's Gamer's Day something or another. Should be cool.

I don't want to see the Revolution playable at E3. I want it's developement to be continued. If we see it at E3 then that means it's pretty much done being constructed. If they hold off on E3 they can continue working on it and hopefully turn out a better product.

Well GM, Nintendo has gone back and made changes in the past ;) Hell, the original GC controller had the bean shaped B button but that changed. Even better, the DS's original look was just horribly wrong and that got made into a much sleeker look. So first showings of Ninty Hardware lately has been through revisions, I expect Revolution to have that also ;)

I read on CNNMoney that PS3 will be revealed with film footage of it's capabilities at the Game Developer's Conference in March (GDC) which is the event someone was trying to pull out but couldn't get the name.

Xbox 2 will not be revealed until E3, and the Revolution will have sneak peeks at the GDC.

PS3 will have footage of demos at GDC but at E3 they will have a Playable prototype.

I expect the reaction from the press at E3 to their prototype to be a building block to make it better. Xbox is making the mistake of releasing their next-gen end of 2005.. which is too early.

I don't know about it being a mistake for Microsoft to release the Xbox2 early. It all depends on how much quality is put into the design of the console and how much effort is put into the launch library. If it launches with a quality list of games and is a powerful quality machine, then they will have a good chance of getting the edge on the other consoles and may be able to pull some more life out of it next-gen.

But, the Dreamcast was released earlier than PS and the 64....

MuGen

the dreamcast didn't last... but it was a good venture for sega

but i think if Xbox doesn't even have a playable prototype at E3 and release Xbox 2 Christmas of 2005.... they are rushing it a bit JUST to get an edge... but history repeats itself.

PS2 was released earlier than Xbox and Cube and both the X and Cube have successfully beaten it's power in graphics. So.. it leads me to believe, that the first of the 3 systems to be released will be there for the other 2 to build off of.

Who knows...

Well, the PS2 is the most successful console this gen. It has definetely been more popular, even though the other consoles are stronger graphically.

And your article says they will reveal Xbox 2 at E3, then that is good.

It just depends on if it will have strong enough sales at first to sustain it and enough staying power to outlast the newer consoles.

The article says that all 3 consoles are reported to be revealed at E3. But PS3 is the only console confirmed to have a playable prototype at E3. The other 2 supposedly will have footage of their console's capabilities.

So therefore Xbox2 and Revolution haven't confirmed working prototypes for E3.

GDC will have info and specs revealed about the ps3 and revolution, but Xbox won't say anything until E3 nor will they reveal anything.

Hopefully all 3 systems get playable prototypes to make this battle even more heated.
