WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has asked for the restoration of a research program designed to create a new type of nuclear weapons capable of destroying hardened underground targets, a Pentagon official said.

However, International Atomic Energy Agency director, Mohamed ElBaradei, warned this week that the "bunker buster" program was sending "the wrong message" and could hinder international non-proliferation efforts.

"You can't tell everyone 'don't touch nuclear weapons' while continuing to build them," ElBaradei said in an interview with The Washington Post newspaper and Newsweek magazine.

Well, if America has Nuclear Weapons, the countries opposed to them will build some too, so they can defend themselves against the U.S Nukes, but then the US builds more.

But I dont think the US will ever get rid of their Nukes. IF, IF every other country in the world has no Nukes. Not one. The US would still try to be able to have theirs. By saying something like "We want to protect the world incase a threat comes." or something along those lines.

I saw on the news footage of a bunker underneath Saddam's palace that was untouched by even our bunker buster bombs. It was, according to the news, almost as sofisticated as the strongest U.S bunkers.

I think that making more effective bombs while disassembling our more obsolete bombs is the right manuver. We do have a huge excess, in my opinion.

Why disassemble them when we could use them? I think we should have jumped at the opportunity to finally take care of the Indonesia problem after they were softened up by the tsunami.
