View Full Version : Pokemon - Kiddy or Not??
WAIT DONT VOTE YET.
Read this first please.
Now I am talking about that little handheld game on your Gameboy. NOT I repeat NOT, the merchandising and the cartoons and films which ARE kiddy. Also to a lesser extent Pokemon Snap and Stadium(s) are kiddy but I am talking about the gameboy game.
I first played Pokemon Yellow, thinking, aah its kiddy crap. My opinion soon changed, the game is not in the least bit kiddy, it is taken seriously and is one of the best games I have ever played. Since then I have played all variations and I am now working my way through Pokemon Crystal which IMO is the best game yet in the series. I am asking those of you with an open mind who have played the game seriously (any one of them) from beginning to end, to vote in my poll. And I am asking people with a closed mind to play the damn game, it's great. Please comment aswell.
Now the question. Pokemon - Kiddy or Not??

The Pokemon GameBoy games are not kiddy at all. I think that the series is amazing, and hopefully the ones on GBA will follow the same aspects of the GB games, and be sweet as hell (or candy, because hell isn't sweet, I think).

Everything about Pokemon is Kiddy...
You guys are acting like if a game is fun, it isn't kiddy...
Pokemon is a fun game... but it's kiddy... Pokemon for Gameboy is the most fun Pokemon product, but everything else makes me puke (ESPECIALLY the N64 Pokemon games)

It sort of depends on the criteria. Can Pokemon be enjoyed by people of all ages? Yes. In that sense, some may not consider it to be kiddy.
On the other hand, it does feature cute animals, a pretty simplistic plot, cardboard characters and flat dialogue. And then there are the Pikachu sound effects.
My opinion: who the heck cares?

I base kiddyness/matureness off of who the game is aimed at (who will buy it and who will play it how diffucult/complecated it is)

Pokémon rox! The only kiddy thing about the games is that the monster are cute... But that doesn't bother me!!!
The rest is kinda kiddy, but I still like it! :D

Well, when it was new i loved it, but as it wore away so did my interest, now i consider it as kiddy.
Some of you dont quite seem to have grasped the concept of what I am trying to say, pretend that pokémon is not the big kiddy franchise that it is, instead pretend it is the gameboy game and just the gameboy game, do you still consider it kiddy. I say no.

I say yes...
Why? Because in the game you are a little kid collecting animals...
Like I said before, it's fun, but "fun" dosen't mean it's not kiddy

Well, I'm not quite sure. The story follows a 10-year-old boy collecting cute monsters to battle against other kids. I don't there's a single Pokémon that would be considered scary. Even Mewtwo is cute.
The gameplay itself is not aimed towards little kids. I've mentioned many times the mathematical equations that goes into creating the perfect team. It's pretty easy to beat the game but if you ever want to compete against others then you need one hell of a good team with plenty of time and research.
In the game both kids and adults battle with Pokémon. Though with G/S/C you had these crazy adult nuts called PokéFans. A grown man wearing a pikachu shirt and hat with his gut hanging out. Ugh.
I've witnessed man in business suits playing Pokémon on the train you obviously it's a game that can be enjoyed by all.
I do with the appearence of some monsters weren't so cutesy. Look at some Digimon for example:

Digimon has a mix of cut and scary monsters. They for the most part start off cute and then as they grow and evolve they become more monster looking and intimidating. This is what I think Pokémon should do.
