This was brought up in the FF thread in the GameCube forum, but I want to know what you think.
Do you prefer:
RPGs taking place in medieval or older times. With Kings, Knights, etc. (Example: FF IX)
RPGs taking part in the present. (Example: Secret of Evermore)
RPGs taking place in a more futuristic setting (Example: FF7)
All three places. A sort of mix. (Example: Chrono Trigger)

What made Chrono Trigger such a title of epic proportion was the fact that it was a game with a melange of various time settings. Excellence.

what exactly is Skies classified as?
I mean it's in a more ancient time (The game is supposed to replicate the Age of Exploration)
But I mean floating islands and airships seem to be more futurustuc..
ARGh..well whatever the hell Skies is

I said past and future... I like future the most, but I like past now and then... but when I want past, I don't want like a ton of big shiny mideval cities and stuff... I want it to take place over vast plains and mountains and such coming to a small town... I think it would be awesome if you took FFX's little journey element (although it made the game linear until near the very end where you got the airship) and stick it through deep forests and rough mountain passes, occasionally coming to a small town to stop for some rest, and add in a really good storyline, I think it could be much better than FFX (although I liked FFX a lot and it's one of my fav. FF games of all time)...
I don't really like the idea of present for some reason... I like secret of evermore (more than most people I've heard talk about it)... but I don't really consider that present... I mean the beginning of the game was present... but then he got warped into this world where a bunch of different time periods all exist at the same time (or however you'd say it)... pre-historic... then like the roman stuff... and then mideval... and last, the future up on that space station...
And I Chrono Trigger was a mix, but it still wasn't really any present... it was still in the past with small towns and castles and stuff... then it goes even further back to still a similar setting, but it was even smaller and... older heh heh... and then there was prehistoric and the future and yada blah...
But when I think present I think something like a let's say Parasite Eve... which had some RPG elements, and took place in new york... stuff like that... Parasite eve was kinda OK though... awesome FMVs and a catch intro song... *dances a jig to the intro song*
anyways...
Man now that I think of a FF game that plays like a journey like in FFX set in big open country sides and mountains and forests and such... I really want it to happen but it probably won't :(
But damn... I just imagined... like a game that plays out a lot like Chrono Trigger... y'know, the same world, but in very different time zones... and tons of subquests that will warp the appearance of various time zones and such... but in awesome 3D enviornments... and with a great gameplay engine and such... Maybe the next chrono game... but aargh I hate it when I think of awesome games and I come up with ideas that just sound so cool but might not even happen... :( Maybe it would be even better to have a game like I just described, but with action/adventure gameplay like Zelda... time traveling, tons of subquests that would warp the appearance of the world and path the game takes... with big open enviornments and oh I better stop now or I'm gonna cry :baby:

I like future ones more because I can relate to them more... and that makes the game more fun
I also like Mario RPG and Paper Mario... but I don't know what that classifies as

Either one is fine with me. Whether its future or past or present, if its a good game I'll like it.

I would make it an all setting RPG. such as past then present then future, and the last part would be unrealistic.

Well I like RPG's set in the past... I don't know why....but I like them...I guess it's because it's because I can more relate to it...because back in the days i always use to think they were wizards and magic were in abandance back then....but present day and in the future it doesn't seem likely.
Ahhhhhh what am I saying...I probadly just like the background..since I'm an outdoor kind of guy, who knows. I don't ...all I know is I like those Rpg's better.

I like the past better because I feel like I was born 2,000 years too late. I have these constant urges to pillage towns, decapitate people on a whim, and toss plague infected meat into people's water supplies.
Ahhh, the good old days...:D

I never liked Robo. I laughed when he got the crap beat out of him by his fellow robots.
