Here’s some food for thought. I was just sitting here thinking about the competition that Sony has going on with Nintendo right now in the handheld market. If you haven’t figured out what I’m talking about, it’s PSP vs. DS. Let’s do some thinking.

- PSP has superior graphics compared to DS.

I’m not going to get any further into details when comparing these two machines. I know they both have their pros and cons. But we aren’t going to focus on that. We are just going to look at what I stated above. We all know two things that fall under this. One is a statement; the other has to do with technology.

It has been said by Nintendo, on more then one occasion that graphics is not their top priority. They are more concerned about gameplay, adding something new to the market.

This is not fact, but has been said by a couple of reliable websites, that Nintendo does have true GameBoy successor in development and it’s been in development for some time. Simply put, the mini GameCube.

So here is the thought. What if Nintendo intentionally put the DS on the market to see if people (gaming market) are truly obsessed with graphics, instead of innovation? This points toward the Evolution. What if the PSP outsells the DS? Nintendo sees this and decides to go ahead and start focusing on the graphics part of their console system a little more. They realize that the majority of the gaming public are nothing more then a bunch of little graphic whores (like me).

I know what some of you are thinking. The handheld market is a different market then the console market. Well, yeah, I don’t agree with that. Everybody that I have met that has a handheld, also has some kind of console. So in my opinion, everybody that owns a handheld, also has some type of console. It doesn’t even have to be the recent consoles, just a console.

It’s just a thought, nothing really serious that I stand behind. Maybe I just have too much time on my hands.

Whoa… I’ve impressed myself. This is the most I’ve posted in a long time. And I have to change that stupid signature (oh well, just too lazy too)

So this will settle our debate. Which do gamers want more; to see a movie or play a game?

Well, if most gamers are like you, you've said you dont like the games and are getting fed up.

So I'll say movie.

   This won't settle anything. ;)

I'm a graphics whore. I admit it. When I sit down to play the newest game on the market, I want it too look pretty. Just so there is no confusion, I didn't say realistic... just pretty.

movie has nothing to do with it, whether you want to believe it or not, graphics have a LOT more impact on gameplay then most would like to admit. thats not saying that a game with bad graphics cant be good. thats just saying that much of the time, graphics can make a good game great.

I think the graphics are a big issue, along with the screen. The PSP screen is huge, and bright...and clear.

I don't think Nintendo would risk their most dominant market as an experiment to see whether or not consumers prefer graphics or revolution.

I'll be getting both, but atm the Nintendo DS seems more appealing to me

I think, from a gaming standpoint, the DS will out perform the PSP.

because of the dual screens?

I think the DS' advantage is the dual screens, while the PSP's advantage is superior hardware and analog stick

Someday the DS will have an analog stick :(

But as for the "War". Let it happen. Both companies are here to stay. Nintendo isnt just going to over night be out of the handheld market. Its like saying Microsoft will ruin Sony next gen with the Xbox 2.

The DS has had a very strong start, but what if after the PSP comes out and just dominats? Do you really think Nintendo could still stand by their statements that graphics don't matter? I don't think they would gamble either. But this just might be a very expensive survey.

They also say that about compensation.

Anyways.

I think the PSP is way better then the DS. Just because of screen size, and graphics. And I'm a graphics whore. If things wernt about graphics, we would still be in the 8 or 16-bit era.

*nostalgia*

But I saw Phils DS, and it was nifty, I will admit, we had good times making stick people have squiggly sex and whatnot.

But I dont know...I cant fully explain it...Im not by any means saying the DS is crap, I'm just saying I would seemingly prefer the PSP.

But I dont plan on owning either, So meh.

I don't see the DS as an experiment but rather a creative, amazing deviation from the traditional handheld experience to occupy gamers while the next Gameboy successor is being developed. Whether it will evolve and continue on as a new species in the Nintendo kingdom is unknown. That rests soley on the success of the current DS. If it doesn't do as well as hoped, it may go the way of the Virtual Boy.

It's lucky for Sony that some people are more interested in the aesthetic side of gaming.

i disagree completely.

sony builds and markets these type of products because they KNOW there are people more interested in the aesthetic side of gaming. they could cater to the needs of another market if that was where the money was. luck has nothing to do with it.

No, no... it's luck

And Nintendo's lucky that some people will still buy NEW games for OLD graphics and gameplay.

If you want an old game, buy an old game.

There is a bit of luck involved, but it's not soley based on luck.

Perfect Stu

there is no luck involved.

they dont just piss into the wind and hope the wind blows the right way...companies like Sony and Nintendo know what they're doing before they release a product.

as for HOW good the product does...some luck is involved, I GUESS...but it almost always stems from product quality and marketing, and effective R&D

All I know is I'd much rather see Grand Theft Auto PSP then Grand Theft Auto DS. After looking at those Need For Speed DS graphics.....bleh.

and i garentee you that every single person that bought thoes games, woulda absolutly loved it that much more had it had beautiful graphics. Anyone who denies that is BS'ing themselves.

and i also garentee scores the games recieved woulda been higher.

a bad game with good graphics is still a bad game.

a good game with bad graphics is still a good game.

a good game with good graphics is a better game.

People always kid themselves when they say graphics mean nothing. graphics mean a LOT.
