TOKYO, JAPAN 1/21/04 - Reuters
Capcom representatives today revealed that they would change around the gameplay mechanics for the Resident Evil 4 port for the Playstation 2 console. The forced first person and a half camera angle will have changed to the classic free third person view, like all the old survival horror games. Capcom has also re-implemented the ink ribbon system in the Playstation 2 port, and other changes will have taken effect for this version. Some fans will like, and some will regret.

This comes as interesting news for me...a Resident Evil series lover, and being one who has played all on PSX, and PS2. I have to admit... the forced first person camera behind Leon really prevents any sort of perspective, making it scarier but harder. I dunno what is good the third person or the first person... but preferencially... I'd go third person.

Ouch on the re-implementing of the ink ribbon system. Was that done in spite to Capcom for forcing the developers of RE4 to put it on the PS2? We may never know....

Errr.... No first person-esque perspective means no aiming at various body parts... That was half (or most?) of what made the gameplay in RE4 so good...

Ink Ribbons are just a hassle...

I dunno, seems like some pretty odd changes...

Well I think the exploration would be for the most part free third person and then it would switch to the gamecube view to fight enemies.
