- Sony posted a warning to PSP customers in Japan, stating that there is an unofficial update to PSP on the Internet, which upgrades the firmware of the system through Memory Stick and adding new functions such as Voice Chat, E-Mail, and Web browser. This update is not approved by Sony's developers, and it may crash the operating system in PSP and permanently damage the system, Sony will grant no warranty to any damages caused by these updates.
I hope that's stopped.

Yeah, I heard about that. If there isn't a disclaimer before downloading or installing on the PSP, its not your fault. Sony should be held liable because it didn't tell ya that this software could harm. BUT thats only if there isnt a disclaimer.
hope its not stoped. i think its cool that it has the ability to add stuff and features like that. theres going to be many possibilites. the risk is actually probably really low. sony just doesnt want people to do it. Wasnt sony going to make such an update themselves anyway?

its UNofficial. meaning sony didnt make it. anytime you install something that the company didnt make themselves its YOUR fault. you should always know the risks before doing it.
example...
you install Omega drivers on your ATI GFX card and it ruins it. ATI doesnt have to do anything. they never told you to install any drivers but thier own.

Yeah right Null. If Sony didn't make update then who did? It was posted on Sony's site. Did some joe shmoe make it and somehow Sony went "OMG, Its awesome".
If the risk was so low then why has there been reports of some people's PSPs failing to boot and Sony telling everyone they have to foot the bill to get it repaired (shipping cost).
I understand your trying to get in my skin and you knwo what, its working. Hope your happy defending something Sony blatanly made themselves. If you could explain who actually made the software update that wasnt Sony, I'd like to know, thanks
Also, this update was just beta'ish software that wasn't supposed to be released to the public because of problems like this according to Sony.

Jonbo, how about you prove that Sony made this unofficial update before you start running your mouth?

Even though it has the chance of ruining you PSP, the cool features almost make it worth the risk. :)
How are they enabling online functions though? PSP doesn't have any built-in online hardware does it?

I think it has WiFi built into it (802.11b?)

with the USB 2.0 port, connectivity with the PC make the possibilities endless for PSP. Im betting Sony will create an iTunes-like program, but for games. That wont be for quite a while, though...when memory stick prices go down.
and yeah, PSP does have WiFi built in

:hmm: your a very paranoid fella ya know. Why do you think im trying to get under your skin or annoy you in anyway? i like ya bro, i always have. i've never said anything to try and get you upset.
That said, your tellin me that no one has ever made something for someone elses hardware that the hardwares company had no knowledge of or did not support at all?
*looks at dreamcast* huh, interesting...
im sorry but the way i see it, is its an UNofficial software, that sony does not want people using.
your going to be seeing many many forms of software that people make to run on psp that sony had nothing to do with in the coming years. i have a feeling its going to be very easy for people to do.

TeamXLink has their Kai software running PSP now. The only users right now are Japanese but once the PSP comes out here you guys can play online with it too using their stuff. Until Sony's official online software comes at least...
