That is not nearly enough, I'm afraid this will hurt PSP sales big time. This is very grim and unfortunate news...

No, you need to wait before buying it. If it doesn't sell well with America, you're going to feel swindled.

At least 3 million is better then the piddly 200,000 shipped in Japan (albeit, only 180,000 was sold)

This is 3 million WORLDWIDE BY MARCH. Meaning anything that's already been shipped to Japan by March is subtracted from that total. So probably closer to 2 million units in the U.S.

lol. kinda got that backwards. too few isnt going to hurt them at all. too MANY might hurt them. might, but might not.

but if there are so many units on hand, then the demand will decline because it is so readily available ;)

Sony will be successful at selling their units, that is for sure. There is already enough people that don't like Nintendo anymore that will buy this just because its Sony. Whichever one wins the war is not known yet. That depends mostly on the game quality.

Seriously, who cares who wins. Nintendo and Sony are now gonna be the 2 in the Handheld market. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Nintendo will keep its part, Sony will keep its part also.

jonbo, it's about the influence it could have on the handheld industry. If Nintendo DS hardware and software sales dominate PSP hardware and software sales, the future of the industry would be MUCH different than if the opposite were to happen.
Sony has different views than Nintendo. Whichever company is in control of the handheld gaming market will provide a different market for handheld system users.
PSP is about multi-media, with a heavy tilt towards gaming
DS is strictly about gaming

What do all Tickle Me Elmo's get before they are released from the factory?
Test tickles!
Man I'm lame.

It takes time to reengineer the money machine to handle new products.
