Well, I mean much like we can expect summer, winter, fall and spring every year, we can also expect a new Mario PArty game every year.
And much like everyone else, I don't think it's really needed every year. I mean will the world crumble if we don't have another Mario Party next year?
As much as I hate the milking, I really do enjoy the series. Even though I only owned the first and fourth, and only brought the first got the fourth free, I decided to pick up the 6th since my friend got the 5th.. er nevermind the explanation.
And I believe this is the best party yet, and most def the number one Mario PArty on GameCube. Taking elements that have been added and dropped throughout the MArio Party series into one mega game was a good idea.
The orb system that found it's way into Mario PArty 5 has returned in full swing, but now you also have the Orb Shop which is basically like the Item Shop in part 4. Different orbs do different things and some are used differently if used at all. Like there are orbs that are only activated if someone lands on it, while others are activated as soon as someone passes over the space, there are also the non-useable ones like the dog bone which protects you from having a star stolen by a Chain Chomp.
Well, I won't congrulate a game especially on it's 6th iteration just because they give you different ways to use items. I think the real fun begins with some of the new boards and how they use the night/day system in some cool ways. Just be warned, this version I think is based more on luck than any other game in the series because of the new baords.
Let's see there are 6 boards in total, I believe 2 of those stick to the normal rules establised in the first 5 games. I'm not quite sure about the other one, but I know 3 of them shake up the rules just a bit. The first one that comes to mind is the ice board, which starts everyone off with 5 stars, but you can't buy stars in this level at all. The point is to buy the services of chain chomps to steal stars from the other players, and hope they don't do it to you in return. It makes it more interesting making sure that you are out of the reach of chain chomps as often as possible but close enough to run over people.
Other board use the standard set up during the day (20 coins for a star), but at night they will roll a dice which will determine the price of a star from 5-50 coins and you can buy upwards of 5 stars in one turn.
Then a final one, and one of my favorites since it really does change the rule. Has a DK/Bowser switch during day/night. So at day it's DK, who you can buy a star from, and at night it's Bowser who steals one of your stars and gives you a shadow star (Does anyone remember this gimmick from PEach's Castle in the original?). But that isn't the cool part. DK and Bowser move at the end of every turn. They roll the dice and move along the board like any other chracter which makes for some interesting things. Such as the ability to buy stars from DK as he passes you by. In one turn, he walked by everyone and we all got to buy stars. Then the next turn, Mario walked by him and got another star. During the night it's the same with Bowser, except that you move backwards as well.
As for the mic, well I can't say it adds a lot to the game. The mini games hardly ever show up in the Party mode, and well there is a little lag between saying command and when it's executed making some of the things impossible to do since you have to time it before it happens and you usually don't see it in time. The mic though is light and comfortable and easy to pass around.
All in all it's fun and I can't wait to get back to school with it. :D
