without school, you dont have a future.

having said that, it isnt the end-all be-all of a youth's life. one thing I picked up is that learning is more important than the actual marks you get. once you get into college, nobody gives 2 craps about what your average was in grade 11. it's all about learning practical skills that you'll use throughout your career...and you'll find something you're interested in and studying THAT field becomes interesting. trust me :)

School must be important if you NEED to take classes at it.

I think you also need an English class.

/Had to say it. I'm only sort of kidding.

Why would you be kidding?

Along with chivalry, proper grammar is dead (which sucks because i'm chivalrous and appreciate proper grammar).

I'm a stickler for gramamr. Everything I do on the computer is perfect, or else it isnt writte by me.

As for me, high school was ok, but I absolutely love University to death.

High School is really just college preperation. High School is supposed to be about highly social situations. Although, I think nowadays the concept of what High School should be about gets lost with expectations and colleges. Not many people excel in every area, and that's what high school is about. You're supposed to find out if you suck at math or if you're the best English student ever, that's the point.

High School seems pointless at times, because a lot of it is. But it's really a great introduction to life in general, and you're probably going to look back in 10 years, and be much happier learning you weren't good at this in high school, and you didn't spend x amount of money attempting to learn that in college.

I don't know.......I have finals coming up so I'm kind of mellow........but I don't mind high school all that much.

Perfect Stu

High school is crap. Social behaviour, moral values and all that *important* stuff is taught at a much younger age. I'm not saying that parts of highschool arent needed, because some are...but more than 60% of it, in my mind, is pure time-wasting garbage.

Grade school and post-secondary education is where it's at! :)

High school is easy! I do agree that it is mainly college preparation though. By the time I graduate, I would have already taken 6 College level or AP or whatever you want to call it classes. Hopefully (probably), I'll pass all the exams so I wont need to dish out the money to take those classes in Uni :D

According to urbandictionary.com, the majority of students agree with you, deathgirl. Let's take a look at the most popular definition, shall we?

1. School- a building made for taking naps, hires people to talk you to sleep

And the list goes on, it's hilarious.

High school was alright for me... I mean, there were times when I just want to crawl into a hole and die but overall it's been fairly alright.

Uni is great too and will be tons better if I weren't such a major procrastinator.

Enjoy your school days while they last... ;)

I stayed up until 5:11 this morning finishing a stupid art project and then I slept for two hours before having to go to school. I'm pretty tired now. Regardless of my energy, this darn GameTavern never stops beckoning me. Being a member here for so long is like wearing the One Ring. I can't ever escape GT's pull.

This reminds me of something else I've been meaning to say: Unless you have local friends on here with you, we really have no way of knowing if any of us is ever been involved in an accident or is killed. Which is kind of sad. So I want to clarify for myself and other people can state their little system here too if they want. Anyway, I just want to let people know that if I ever decided to leave GT, quit, or go away for a long time, I would either make a thread here or inform another member via MSN or AIM. So if for any reason, I suddenly stopped showing up without any notice, assume that something has happened to me. Unfortunatley, I don't really have any contacts here who could notify you. But Neo and some older staff employees might remember geist. He used to work here and even though we aren't friends, his mom and my mom are so if you became curious about my undeclared absence, you could try contacting him. So in conclusion, if I ever leave, someone will know about it, otherwise, send for help! ;)

Of course school sucks, but it's important it's a major part of your lives. I'm however done with school and college it was a major part of my life.

You make friends in school, and you hang with your friends in school. You also have something to do all day.

I dunno but when I had sick days or even days off... I really couldn't find much to do but to hang out on the porch with my friends. That and I had no money to do anything. Now that school is over and I've found a good job... I can actually do things.

Out of my 2 favourite teachers, one was an absolute bastard to those who talked back to him, and the other was too nice to those who talked back to him.

If I was a teacher, I would try to have a FUN learning environment... But definitely put some kids in place if they are repetitively acting up.

You just love to cause trouble huh?

Well, the answer to your question is yes. I am going to be doing a research paper next semester for graduation and I am looking forward to it. It is a topic I am interested in.

And I did cancer research in high school, that was pretty interesting. It had its down sides too though.

Question for the Group:

Are you motivated to do well in school? If yes, is it because you:

• simply like to learn
• want to be successful
• a bit of both

Feel free to explain your stance if you want.

DimHalo
12-17-2004, 08:42 AM
I used to motivated to do well in school simply because i liked to learn.

Recently that has changed to a desire to be successful in college so that I can get a job.

Coulnd't have said it better myself. The better the grades I get here in university, the more prospects I have for my coop placement next year. And once I get a coop placement, and I keep up the good work, I'll be rolling in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm not a great student

I dont work hard, per se, as in number of hours reading/studying/writing. But I learn unlike most people. I think both logically and creatively, read over the facts and then pages of information just sorta become second nature to me, without re-reading them or spending much time thinking about them. At the same time, I have a poor work ethic, and poor stick-to-it-ive-ness. I can dominate class discussion or (when I dont read a damn thing) have no idea what's going on. I also miss a lot of classes.

But I am smart. I was born with smarts. I have a very confident outlook on my abilities to learn and soak up knowledge in things that interest me. I learned the sport of football in one year better than a lot of middle aged people who watch it all their life. I pitched a marketing idea to the company my father has quite a bit of leverage with, and they liked it. I've designed a couple company logos but never took art class. Things like that.

Once I get a job in a field I like, I think I'm going to move up the corporate ladder a lot quicker than most do...ambition, and the inner perfectionist will drive me.

I work ethic the first 3/4 of this past semester were horrible... But I really picked up up late November.. which was great timing, because for my exams, the heavily test the most recent stuff they teach you, because it is like a combination of every thing they taught to you all year.

I work hard and do well in school for both my love of learning and what an education can bring me in the future. Right now, I'm just trying to do my best so I can get some scholarships in order to pay for University in a couple years.

I don't really mind school...I just hate busy work and term papers. I can deal with the homework, and I don't mind learning during school. I like being in school because I get to see my friends, it gives me something to do, and I do enjoy learning..it just depends on the class I guess.

I love school.

Honestly. I love it.

I hate the classes, and the work part of it though....Unless its a class like Astronomy, Geology, Geography, Info Tech, Marketing or English.

Then I like it.

I mainly like school because after you graduate, the average person loses 80% of his or her friends. Thats a large percent.

So at school, I can meet up with all the people I'll be too lazy to hang out with on my own time.

ZebraRampage

Those would be fun classes. I haven't had Geography since 7th grade..I miss it. It's what I'm best at.

not bad, but I already know how to do that, and it wasn't through school. :D
and on another note, it all depends on how you look at school. it can be either: "wow..I have to spend 50% of my life here to learn the same stuff every year blah blah blah."
OR
"Hey, this isn't that bad. could take a while, but I might as well have fun while I'm here."
