God damn world is freakin huge. I fell off the side of the Teldrassil island when I was in ghost form, and after about 10 seconds of complete freefall, I couldn't get back up... like wtf mate. I had to kill myself in ghost form and it ruined some of my items. This is what I get for not paying off that jackass of a spirit healer.
Is there an auction house or something? I feel like the merchants are ripping me off proper.
edit: bloody hell, night elves can't use guns? dammit, I wanted to be a gun totting elf.

Yeah there are auction houses I think in all the big cities... I've never gone to one though, I'm not exactly sure how they work and such...
And bows are kewler than guns... :sneaky:

I think your NE hunter (;)) can learn to use guns, you'll just have to fiend a trainer who can teach you.
Auction houses are great. Especially 'green' items (better quality) make good money there. Like malachite, merchants pay you 30c for it, while players pay 2s. :D
Oh, save linen cloth, so you can ask a tailor to make bags for you.
And I've discoverd that my class is called MAGE, not WIZARD.

I like the damage my mage can do. But I've got only 250HP, so once enemies get close to me, I start to stress. :D

what the frick, I absolutely cannot find the damn auction house in Darnassus. They should label it on the map or something, and the bank too, that was a pain in the ass to find.
Anyone else get a glitch sometimes when they loot stuff? I was looting a dead body when my character got stuck in the loot position, and from there on could not loot anything. So I logged out and then back on, and went to pick up a pine cone, and the same bloody thing happen again. I ran around for 15 minutes trying to get out of the loot position. I called a GM who didnt reply, and then suddenly for no reason at all I went back to normal. Like wtf mate.

There are guards around big towns that you can ask... If you ask there where the bank is, they tell you, and labels it on the map...
As for the auction house, it turns out there's only 1 auction house per race... And the alliance one is in Ironforge...
And yeah that looting glitch has happened to me, but it only lasted like 10-15 seconds before it said "You cannot loot that, it would be stealing" or something and she stood back up...

It's due to lag. You try to loot something but you're lagging so you can't.

skinning/leatherworking...
I just hit level 30...
My skinning skill is like 223 or something, and my leatherworking skill is 171 or so...
And I rarely use the secondary skills... if ever... I got in the habit of giving my tailor-friend all my cloth, and I don't wanna take the time to fish, nor to find the right meat to cook with...
Oh and apparently I was wrong and Night Elves CAN learn to use guns... Unless they can for some reason learn to use guns but CAN'T equip them, however I was indeed able to at least learn the skill of using guns *nods*...

Seems like nobody is able to spell Rogue... Not to pick on you, I just think it's funny because half the time I see someone say it on WoW, they say Rouge...
And once a guy spelled it "Rogue", then corrected himself and said "*rouge".. Then some other guy said "*rogue"

Typically in smaller cities there's a mailbox outside the inn... While in bigger cities there are more of them scattered throughout...
One of the things you can ask a guard is where there's a mailbox, and then it marks a little flag on your map that you can follow...
The mail system is nifty, it costs 30c to send a letter, and is most useful for it's ability to send items to people... So your friends don't have to travel all the way over to where you are to receive it (although after you send a letter, it takes about an hour for it to arrive)... Or to send stuff to someone who's not currently online...

Hey hey. The monthly fee is $15. I picked up like five two-month prepaid cards the other day because it was employee appreciation day at Gamestop (25% off instead of 15%).
As for what connection I'm using, I'm on 3Mb cable. But I don't know what's necessary. I personally wouldn't suggest even trying with dial-up, but that's just me.
On a really huge side-note I'm getting a new graphics card!!!
Yeah, I never would use big letters like that except for the fact that I'm incredibly pumped. I just ordered a XFX GeForce 6600 GT AGP. I would have gone ATI but they've got no med-low or med-high AGP cards. I would have had to of splurged for an x800 (ain't gonna happen). Mere words cannot convey my joy. I've been running a GeForce 4 MX 420 for a while now (which isn't even officially supported for WoW because it lacks support for pixel shaders). This should finally bring me into the world of awesome graphics with fluid frame rates. Ah, it's been so long.

Yeah, I was gun totting with my NE hunter the other day, good stuff.
Black fathom deeps is a pain in the royal ass. I died in there maybe 5 times last night, and on the 5th time my ghost wouldn't dive under water so I couldn't get into the damn place. Had to wait 20 min for a GM to respond.

My mage now wields a sword. :D It looks so cool.
DarkMaster
12-23-2004, 08:31 PM
The same way you get your character to dive when they're alive. Just right click down into the water.
Btw, how do you leave a guild? I don't understand why there isn't an easy option in place that allows you to leave one, I looked all over and couldn't find anything. The one I'm in is kind of a pain in the ass, and I might wanna leave it. I don't want to send out a general chat asking in case someone from the guild is in the area :sneaky: would look pretty stupid.

Now are you actually grouping with people during your gameplay experience or are you going solo?
Blackfathom deeps is an elite dungeon... Elite dungeons are basically impossible to do without a group, unless maybe you were 30 levels above the monsters in that specific dungeon...
As for leaving a guild, I'm pretty sure you just type /guildleave or /leaveguild
I forget which one...

DeathsHand
12-27-2004, 12:22 AM
Yeah, on second thought don't choose burning legion... it gets on my nerves...
The horde are constantly attacking southshore and astranaar, and occasionally other places... They bring level 50s, 60s, and a bunch of lower levels as well...
To attack areas traversed mainly by 20-30 alliance players... Which is lame in the first place, however:
The alliance never wants to fight back... We have high level players, but they're never anywhere to be found... If someone's under attack, usually the highest people who show up to defend are in the 40s, and not only that but we're still always outnumbered...
And I can't find a single person who has ever heard of an ALliance raid, and I don't believe they actually even exist...
Me and 3 people from my guild (levels 22, 24, 35, and me 42) went to the crossroads just to screw around with the horde... Attacking guards, dancing, etc... And within like... 10 minutes there are multiple 50s, 60s, and just an overall ****load of horde players there fighting back... AGAINST 4 PEOPLE...
It's so ****ing unbalanced it's not even funny... If only the level 50-60 alliance players would grow some balls and help us mid-lower players defend against the horde for a change...
And most of all, if only there was a point to PvPing in the first place...

Jonbo298
12-27-2004, 03:40 PM
Well, all I ever hear for WoW PvP is people being ganked, high lvl people attacking lowbies, exploits where you get forced into PvP mode. Sounds like a real big mess that Blizzard seems to be having a hard time fixing.
DarkMaster
12-27-2004, 06:48 PM
And that is why you don't go on a PVP server. There are normal servers you know, they make up nearly 85% of the total amount of servers. I've had no problems what so ever on Eonar with PVP. If you want to fight, turn on PVP, if not, get on with your business. PVP is actually done quite well in this game, especially compared to the crap that is EQ, or the pathetically boring and stupid FFXI set up.
I do find that generally the horde are more active in raids than alliance on most servers. I think most people that would rather just raid and terrorize instead of questing and stuff would usually join the horde the begin with, as they are basically an evil and menacing type of group. On Eonar there is a lot of alliance raiding activity however, in fact it's pretty well equal on that front. Mainly its just horde attacks astranaar, alliance retaliates on crossroads, etc. Although some of the major raids have been insane.
And now there's the new battlegrounds specifically for PVP, which looks awesome. I think I heard something like you can command tanks and gryphons and such to reak havoc, and the whole thing is like one big large scale war. Looks fun.
Jonbo298
12-27-2004, 07:00 PM
I do know about the non-pvp servers. But isnt there some bug/exploit where on a non-pvp server, you can still enter pvp mode? Or am I confusing it a bit?
But eh, I won't ever be playing WoW after hating the beta so I'll leave this thread in peace :p
DeathsHand
12-27-2004, 09:29 PM
The thing about World of Warcraft is there's supposed to be tension and a threat from the opposing side...
When you enter contested or enemy territory on a PvP server, you have to keep your guard up... There's a war (of sorts) going on...
On a PvE it's just "la de da, this area might as well be my side's territory!"...
Even if you decide to enable PvP on it, the chances of running into someone else with it on are probably quite are...
And if you somehow get a raid group of PvP-enabled players together to attack a town, you'd mostly just be fighting NPCs while having to weed through a bunch of PvP-disabled players to find the ones who've turned it on...
When you get ganked, basically all you lose is a whole 30 seconds-2 minutes spent getting your corpse back... Being killed in PvP doesn't even damage your equiptment... And not everyone ganks... There have been plenty of times when people with a big advantage over me have simply ignored me...
But when you get a group of 3 level 50+ people roaming around an area for the specific purpose of killing any lowbies they find, that's when it gets annoying... Along with people who corpse camp...
An honor system would even things out a bit... Punish them for slaughtering low people for no reason, and reward them for actually fighting people who stand a chance... I believe Blizzard has already said there would be PvP-specific weapons and armor...
The only problems Blizzard could have with an honor system is how to handle it with raids... Since raids typically consist of a wide level range of characters... If a bunch of level 30s decide to attack a town where a level 60 player happens to be at the time, he shouldn't be punished for helping to defend the town...
And having some high level players in raid groups even things out (considering the NPC guards are usually quite high in level), but of course they'd also attack some of the lower player characters too... But they shouldn't be punished for that either, during raids there's no time to look through people and find one that's your level...
But at the same time, if they say, don't have raid groups count in the honor system at all... Then as few as 6 high level people (need at least 6 for a raid) could make a raid group and go around picking off lowbies in contested territory free of penalty...
There's a fine line blizzard has to walk on designing the rewards system for PvPing...
But the PvP in WoW has such great potential that playing on a PvE server would seemingly take away from a huge portion of the gaming experience...
Jonbo298
12-27-2004, 11:55 PM
ehhh, I had to post again :p
I wasnt trying to say ganking is all that happens. I just hope whatever Blizzard does with the reward system is good and not ridden with bugs (but then, with anything in an MMO, its gonna have bad bugs =X ). But who knows, maybe PvP in WoW will iron itself out and be a really enjoyable experience for anyone (or a vast majority)

I found my first real problem with WoW: Directions = Suck.
I'm so frustrated when someone giving me a quest says to go "southwest of Brill"...
There's a whole lot of stuff southwest of Brill. There's a whole lot of stuff southwest of EVERYWHERE. The other NPC's are useless with this problem too. I spend so much time running around trying to find everything its rediculous and if it doesn't get better it might just be frustrating enough to make me stop playing.

I agree, I found myself having that same problem early on in the game...
However, most of the time it's telling you to go to a specific named place (the kind that, when you first go there, say "Discovered *name of place*")... And most of the time it doesn't discover that named place until you find a key point in the unexplored area (a camp, some ruins, whatever)... So just be thorough with your search of unexplored territory...
And most of the time when it says south of somewhere or north of somewhere, it means like as far north or south of the place as you can possibly go without leaving that territory...
Like Gnomeregan is "West of Ironforge", meaning it's shoved all the way in the westernmost part of the map...
Sometimes they don't even tell you where the thing is... But that's because the NPC doesn't actually know where it is, he's just heard the name... Or he knows the territory it's in, just not WHERE in the territory it's in...
I think they sorta set it up in that generalized-ish way for quests that are sending you into an area for the first time... To kinda make you have to explore more...
Or maybe they just suck with directions...

Yeah I've noticed that too, It pissed me off when I was looking for the Burning Blade Coven, and for Thral's pick.. Hey does anyone else have problems logging onto the same realm during hours in the morning ?
DarkMaster
12-28-2004, 01:10 PM
Heh, yeah, those quests that don't quite tell you where to go. "Deliver a letter to Stormwind" talk about vague. Although most of the time it does say where in the area you have to go, like Dwarven District or something. I'm a hunter though so I have an easier time than most, cause I just put up a track humanoids or whatever and then look on my mini map for the npc I gotta talk to, which is usually quite useful.
Maybe I'm just having a generally easier time than most with quests, because of FFXI. The quests in that game...oh man "Find the key for the Temple in the jungle" wait a minute...there's a temple in the jungle? I guess I'm just used to having almost no direction at all, so even if a quest in WoW says "Go to Stormwind", I'm a least greatful for that...
And on the subject of PVP, there is still tension in PvE servers, you can't even get near Horde towns or posts without guards attacking you, and they'll attack you with or without PvP turned on. As well, getting anywhere significant in Hored territory involves killing some Horde npcs to get through, and when you do that PvP is automatically turned on, and there's usually a crap load of horde players near by who'll gang rape you. A lot of the players are jackasses too, like when I was going to Ratchet to take the boat, and a Horde guard attacked me, so PvP turned on and I started running. Suddenly some bastard of a lvl55 troll shaman comes out of nowhere and kills my ass. Then waits at my dead body for me to respawn. Took me 11 deaths and 15 minutes to get from cross roads to ratchet cause of some jackass. And when pvp turned off, he still followed me to ratchet, spitting on me, slapping me, laughing at me, he even got on the freakin boat and followed me around in booty bay. So in light of that, I'm more careful in horde territory now.
btw strangler, whats your name in Eonar?

I love things like these...
Now I'm in a moment where I'm torn between 2 or 3 areas... I could go to each of them to do quests, but I can't do them all... Anyway. :)
Argh I love this game.... I love it so much that I'm thinking about not playing it in retail. It will cost too much time!! :( And money of course....
Oh yeah I was thinking illegal thoughts... Someone could probably create an 'offline patch'... making the game offline. Think about it, 80% of the game would make a great singleplayer game!!
But that's... like I said... illegal. :(

With 250+ hours on one character, my level 44 hunter (alongside a level 20 warrior I had before and the level 20 warlock I play as now, probably bringing the total to 300+ hours), I'd have to agree with them...
The runner-up for me would be Half Life 2... It had an amazing wow factor while I was playing it, amazing single player experience, but once WoW came out it went on the shelf along with all my other games... Along with plans to buy Metal Gear Solid 3...
It won't, however, de-rail my plans to buy Resident Evil 4 :p

Question, is dueling other players still pointless?
in the beta testing, nothing was ever gained by winning a duel with another player, game just said so and so wins the duel. i think you should be able to take something of the losers, or have both players bet something before they fight. lol
so that still the same in the final game?

They're trying to implement the PvP honour system in the next patch. I guess that also gives bonusses for dueling. But not certain...

I don't remember them saying anything about dueling in the PvP honor system... I guess it could fall under that lil' umbrella there, but when I read about the PvP rewards I thought it meant horde vs. alliance, fight to the death wether it be out in the world or on the seperate Battlefield areas...
Although putting a wager of sorts on dueling could be neat... Although people could make that sorta thing up themselves... Loser gives winner 10s or what have you...

So has everyone quit playing or has the novelty of posting about it just worn off?
I haven't played in a while. My free month ends in two days. I don't think I'll renew it immediatley, Even though Blizzard says it's the kind of game you can play for just a few minutes, in order to progress you really need to sit down for a couple hours and now that school is back in session I just won't have time. And I'd rather play WC3. Maybe when my next break comes I'll get back in it. Or during the summer. Until then, my pathetic level 10 Troll Shaman, Zarax, will just have to hibernate.

I still play it constantly...
I sorta abandoned my level 44 hunter (to return to it someday, perhaps) for a Warlock on Aggramar which only lasted until level 27 or so before I sorta ditched it and started a rogue on Mel'Ganis... Who's now 25 and I think I'll stick with longer than I did my Warlock...
Of course it's not as fun anymore as it was the first time I really found a character I was comfortable with (44 hunter), but it's still quite fun... *nods*

I still play, lvl41 hunter. I play about 1-3 hours a day, nothing major. You can make considerable progress in short amounts of time, just gotta know what to do and where to go. But you don't have to progress significantly each session to keep playing. There's no huge emphasis on lvl grinding like every other mmorpg, you can just come on and play around, and have fun.
I used to play FFXI as an addiction, feeling obligated to keep playing and progressing. But I play WoW like any other game; because it's fun.

Depends on what kinda guild...
If it's one of those really hugantic ass guilds with a billion members, it seems kinda pointless to me, other than being able to direct higher level members to opposing faction activity...

This may seem like a stupid question (although I had a similar problem that I didn't notice for about a day and a half, mostly due to my characters being on 2 different servers, so when one has problems I try the other), but have you actually selected Eonar and moved to the character select screen?
For awhile I thought that Aggramar was down because it wasn't listed at the top with the other servers I have characters on, then I noticed it was still on the list, but it said I had no characters...
But when I double clicked it, they were still there and playable...
On a side note: I can't stand all these people bitching and moaning about every little problem (although characters being gone for 3 days isn't little)...
But maybe that's because I've really only run into a few minor problems (servers down for 2-3 hours maybe on very rare occasions, bursts of bad lag) and so when people bitch about crap, I assume they're running into pretty much the same crap to which I say: Downtime and lag happens...

Well smart-ass, I contacted Blizzard a week ago and received an auto-reply saying I would have a real response in 24 hours. I have heard nothing as yet, just as I thought I wouldn't. The servers are constantly down longer than expected on maintenance days, I have been booted repeatedly on non-maintenance days. Thankfully I've never been on a server that has a queue at all, much less for several hours. The inablility to transfer characters from server to server doesn't help this problem either.
Blizzard needs to fix these issues regardless of whatever excuses or rationalizations people want to make for them (God knows the forums are full of them who attack anyone who dares criticize WoW server management). I know I'm not the only one experiencing these problems. All you need to to do to see this is visit their forums. Now having a glitchy start-up is one thing, but this game has been going for a while now and the problems seem to have gotten worse, not better.
The game is excellent. There is no doubting this. But when characters with untold hours invested in them are deleted, people are repeatedly booted and their customer care department does not even attempt to meet the goals they've set for themselves, something needs to be fixed and fixed soon or else EQ2 will become more and more attractive to more and more people, including myself.
Its a shame when the inferior game gets consideration because the superior game can't run itself competently.

Alls I know is that different people have different tolerence for problems... A problem that one person might just shrug off and wait patiently to be resolved might cause another to go flying off the handle immeadiately, posting a bunch of stuff on the forums (insane stuff like demanding another entire free month of play for a problem that has only lasted 2 days... I saw this happening when the game first launched and they had a few servers down for 2 or 3 days)...
Like I've said, I've had characters on 3 different servers and for a long time played WoW for basically every waking hour when I wasn't eating or at work... And the only problems I've run into were rare bursts of lag, maybe 3 or 4 periods of downtime lasting a matter of a few hours... Not including maintainence which usually happens while I'm not online anyways...
I think these extreme cases like yours are very rare... I think when/if you get your characters back, it'll probably never happen again... And if anybody is having a gaming experience similar to the one I've been having (meaning only a few periods of downtime) and they're still bitching on the forums, well then they need to chill the fudge out...
And one last thing, have you started another character on another server during your downtime on Eonar, or have you been letting your subscription go to complete waste? If you have, how has your experience on the new server been... And if you havn't, why the heck havn't you?
Professor S
02-09-2005, 12:24 AM
Oh yeah, I've definitely started another character. As I mentioned earlier, I like having a lot of characters so that I have a lot of play options depending on my mood. In fact I've started three new characters, including a new hunter to replace my higher level one.
I have to disagree with your high tolerance level for gaming problems when the game itself costs $180 a year just for subscription. Add the cost of the game and you paid $230 for one game for a year, which is more than the cost of any of the major consoles right now. Add the inevitable expansions and the costs will keep going. For this much investment I expect the servers to stay up. For this much money I expect my characters to not dissappear. For this much money I expect them to reply to my inquiry within the time that they say they will. Hell, for that much money I expect them to say "how high" when I say "jump".
MMORPGs are not a new thing. They've been around for years and considering the amount of hype they recieved and their loyal fanbase, they should have been prepared for the number of subscriptions they had to handle. Bottom line.
If Sony can do it, why can't Blizzard? Thats the beauty of a free economy. You can choose a company that knows what its doing. If I have any more major problems, just one more, Sony will be rewarded for their ability to maintain the integrity of their MMO.

Like I said: Missing characters must be a very rare occurence...
Server downtime happens, nothing's perfect, I'm sure the EQ servers go down too... You can go ahead and tell blizzard to jump and have them reply "How high", but if a server starts acting up blizzard can't simply yell "Work" at it and expect a response...
Yes blizzard has a big fanbase, but MMO's are not for everyone... It's not a RTS game, it's not diablo, and (as you point out) it's much more expensive than most games, putting it out of some people's price range... Plus it came out around the same time as EQ2... They simply underestimated it's success, I s'pose...
And yes it costs a couple hundred bucks overall for a year's play... But it ends up costing something like 50 cents a day (the max monthly subscription, not counting any discounted 3/6 month plans, but not counting the price of the game itself either)...
My point of view is, I play the game so damn much anyways, if it's down for a few hours every once in awhile and I miss out on a whole, I dunno, 15 cents worth of gameplay, well boo hoo... Sure it can be irritating when I want to play and first find out the server is down, but I just find something else to do and try back later...
Oh yeah and one last thing which I highly doubt applies to you:
You didn't happen to stumble into any strange areas in the game world did you? Places with a bunch of high level monsters that just sit there taking abuse, not fighting back?

I didn't think there were fishing bots for WoW. The way fishing is done kind of makes it impossible, Blizzard really took note of FFXI's fishing disater. I'm already recognizing some chinese money farmers though, the idiots have the same names as they did in FFXI (they run FFXI now, the economy is a complete joke). I report them to GMs, but nothing happens, just like in FFXI. I had a troll shaman too, but I hit a huge wall with him where leveling became so slow and dependent on forming groups that I abandoned him. The only class I hate more is warlock, who is like a weak combination of mage and hunter.

That's extremely humorous. I mean, I'm not criticizing. I just think it's funny that you played a Shaman and thought leveling was slow for him. I mean, I've got an alt for every class in the game. And if I could pick one that was on easy mode for PVP and PVE I'd have to pick the Shaman.
Self-Rez, Totems, heals, mage-like spells (most of which are instacast), free epic mount. I mean, really, what more do you want from a class?
My main (Priest) is awesome PvP, but PvE is extremely lacking (somebody at Blizzard really needs to fix the entire Holy tree). And PvP against Shamans is a joke. It's so hard to beat them, it's rather sad that Blizzard devs made it so painfully obvious that they all play Shamans.

I don't get the stupid totems, it takes just as much time to kill those as to make them. Or do they expect us not to attack those totems?

Well in PvE I think the monsters ignore them maybe and so they can come in quite handy...
PvP, ummmmmmmmmmm well if you're a rogue and you have to switch off targets to destroy a totem you lose any combo points you had......... But that's the only negative thing I can think of... :p

And I've played a Paladin. And while, yes, they do live forever, they do not do a lot of damage. It takes forever for a Pally to kill anything, whether it's PvP or PvE and they have a lot of down time in between. It can be a very frustrating class to play. Particularly when you hear everybody screaming for them to be hit with the nerf stick.

So, do you like the new PvP honor system? I think it's great. :D
I just stood by as a lvl 26 while lvl 50s invaded Astranaar..... sometimes I cursed some people or let my pet attack it. I received 22 honoured kills! :p Don't know what I did.... Not much damage, not the finishing blow...

The honor system screwed the game over...
Instead of making people engage in fair fights, people try to power-level their honor rank by grouping a number of level 60s together and wandering the road, camping corpses, etc... In places as low as Feralas even!
I was bored with the game once I hit 60 due to the fact that the endgame relied on raiding, and if you weren't in a big raid guild full of elitist power-gamers, you were **** outta luck...
Now the focus is shifting from raiding instances to raiding various areas to gain honor, which means a fair fight for nobody and lots of ganking for all, now there's a reason to do it!
It doesn't sound like a very fun idea, and so I don't do it, so it adds nothing to the game experience except getting ambushed everytime I'm on the road...
Enjoy!

Man, I've been thinking a lot about starting up this game again. My few months with it last year were swell; plenty of fond memories. I never got addicted to it like I did with FFXI (it's like cocaine that doesn't give you a buzz), but more than anything I remember it being a fun game, which is, like, really feckin bizarre for an MMORPG.
If you guys keep playing, let me know. I may start up again in a month or so.
As far as pointers, Dyne, start crafting early on and pick something that'll suit your class well. For example, I was a hunter and I chose skinning/leathercrafting, cause most of my armor is leather and selling pelts was decent green.
That's all I can really think about in terms of advice.

Yeah, I probably won't play with anybody anyways. I'm pretty much a loner in it right now. I've declined like 15 group invitations already.
And thanks for the advice DM. I've started mining and blacksmith. I assume those are good for my class. I've already found plans for a copper mail or something so it was natural.

there is character transfer, but you cant do it whenever, they allow it on new realms, so for example, a 4 new realms just opened they want them to be as populated as possible so you can switch into it, what im going to do is get a bunch of my buddys and when a new realm opens we all switch in...

Also, you can only transfer to those realms if your own server is over-populated (hence the new ones....)

I guess I'll have a lot of patching ahead of me.
Edit: The error occured a 2nd time, but the 3rd installation worked.
I only had to download 1 patch (well, perhaps a second small one). As I was installing it, it stopped at 99% because I didn't have enough room on my HD. After outstalling Ghost Recon, it worked. Well, I'm patching it now and assume it does.

Need a little help here:
I just hit 40, and I need to farm some gold for the mount and armor upgrade. What is the best way to farm gold for level 40? I've heard the best is multiple solo VC run throughs, but that seems like a lot of time for not that much of a return considering the level.
Any ideas?
DarkMaster
08-30-2006, 02:09 PM
I've only ever leveled two characters past 40, but I somehow always managed to have enough green ready for a mount when I hit the level. I played a rogue once to 60 and had a lot more money than my other character (hunter), even managed an epic mount very shortly after I hit the cap. I've never actually farmed much, but it does depend on your class I think. As a rogue I would sometimes run around this one blood elf camp in Azshara. I pickpocket them for a about 90s a piece, then kill em in like 3 strikes, and collect another 90 or so silver, plus some loot (one time I got a epic weapon off of them, lots of blues and sh*t too).
If you have a craft like leatherworking, fight those enemies that you can skin and also drop money (think its the yetis).

If you're a miner, the perimeter of the Charred Vale in Stonetalon Mountains is home to a lot of Mithril (and a few times Iron, copper/tin, or a lucky Truesilver).
It's also good to play the Auction House. That is, keep an eye out for Blues and Purples that are underpriced, then resell them at regular price. Or, look for high quanitites of items (causing an overall drop in price) and buy it out; then, when the price returns to regular, you can sell it all back slowly.
Also, if you're a miner, sometimes you can find small amounts of ores in the AH for cheap. For instance, if a stack of 20 Mithril were to cost 4g, and you see a few small stacks of 5 mithril ore (or bars) selling for about 50s, you can smelt it (ore) or stack it (bar) to gain some fast and easy cash.
Incomplete stacks can often times be cheaper per unit than complete stacks. However, the opposite can also be true in some circumstances. So, keep an eye out for trade goods (pearls, gems, ore, cloth, and such) that could sell for more individually or as complete stacks.

What class are you and what are your professions?
Both of those questions are extremely important for how you're going to earn your money in WoW. As for armor, you should really do dungeons for the BoP armor provided. Gnomer is getting a bit below you, but Scarlet Monestary would be a really good place to hit up with a 5-man group.

Character Astrain
Level 6 Paladin
My first day in the WoW went something like this: I materialized in front of Northshire Abby and basically stood motionless for a good long while not knowing what to do. Any passerby would have probably noticed drool slowly escaping my mouth. A female character approached, laughed at me, then opened a trade window. She had to do this a couple times before I caught on what I was supposed to do to complete her requested transaction. I received some tarnished armor and a better mace than the one I was born with. Not the best equipment but much better than what I would have been able to procure on my own for some time. I figure she sensed my confusion and took pity on me.
Afterwards I began exploring and started learning the mechanics of the game. I completed a few quests and joined the Agony guild. One thing I'd like to know is why can't anyone in this world deliver letters their damn selves? Here's what a typical quest involves:
Person A: Give letter to person B
Person B: Go to person C to get permission for A and B to do something.
Person C: Go to person D and fetch an item for A and B
Person D: Go kill E, F, G, and H to get needed materials for person C.
I really want to play as the Undead but a friend of mine from my sims online days got me into this game and she plays as Alliance. I'll probably start an undead character on a different server later.

That kind of crap is more or less exclusive to the Human starting areas, delivering letters and crap. There's a lot of stupid quests like that around Elwynn and Westfall, Redridge and etc. I had a lot of fun in the Night Elf and Undead starting areas. The Undead quests are probably the coolest, they freakin hate everyone and eveything so you spend most of your time making horrible poisons for traitors, stealing sh*t from other undead, and all around just killing pretty much everything.

I'm a level 13 Human Warrior named Sobenz on the Hydraxis server; currently spending most of my time in Westfall.
I really like it, but for some reason I keep getting lag in really random places. I mean, for no reason that I can tell. My connection's fine, it just suddenly lag kicks in and I can't do anything. Its happened three times. First time I just logged out and logged back in and was fine (I actually logged into the middle of a bunch of gnolls [it was a desperate logout] and had to run over into Westfall to escape them). Second time I just died and it was fixed. Third time just happened. I logged out, haven't gone back in.
Anyway, this character was just sort of meant as a "let's see what I'm doing" character. I think in a few days, unless I find something awesome or something, I'll start my "real" character; probably something more exciting than a human warrior. Don't know what yet....

I sell gold to friends I meet in game. Nothing over ebay or anything like that. But if I've done a heroic with somebody a few times and they talk about how short they are on gold, I offer.
For my close friends I've leveled characters 1-70. I've gotten quite fast, hunters are usually 5 or 6 days played as my fastest class. Others are no more than 9. And if it's something I need to do to bring a friend into the game that will make my playtime more enjoyable, I think it's worthwhile.
I don't feel bad, but I've played WoW for a long time and come to the conclusion that the economy in WoW is worthless. Particularly now. The expansion made vendor sold items cost a much smaller percentage of the gold that you earn than you did pre-BC.
I don't bot. But I know people who do. WoWGlider is totally untracable by Blizzard's Warden program. That's where I draw the line. The gold I sell is always farmed by my own hand. And really, I've only sold ~50k gold, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that much.
But whatever. I'd understand if anybody felt like flaming.

It's illegal??? You mean it's against Blizzard's rules, right?Yeah that most of all. But aren't they "out to get you" or something? First of all I don't like breaking rules, second of all I don't like being caught and having to pay a fine.
I never really looked up what I could get for my account. Basicly it just has a lvl 60 lock with +660 dmg. My brother's (inactive) account has 4 lvl 60s (rogue, hunter, warrior, druid), but only the hunter has some raiding gear (between t1 and t2).
Oh yeah, maybe the biggest reason I didn't sell is that I've always looked down on people who bought or sold an account. Just as on people who buy gold. I always had enough gold, the trick is to PLAY. You either run instances, you grind, you use your professions, or you make money using the auction house.
And Thatmariolover, I think what you do is ok. As long as it's between friends, I don't mind it that much.

I've decided to take advantage of the TBC 10-day free trial. This way I can see my cute character again, have a look in some TBC areas and fool my old guildies/friends.

i'm pretty sure you need to set up a new account for the trial, no?

Nope. What would be the fun of testing TBC if you're not lvl 60 yet? I'm playing at the moment, it's so incredibly boring. Been there, done that.

That's kind of how I felt after playing it awhile...
When you first walk through the dark portal is quite an experience though... All the chaos just beyond the gate and such... Then you're flown off to a normal little area that's just like any other place in WoW...

i dunno, i'm level 29 now (almost 30) and i'm still enjoying the game quite a bit...there is just so much to do (battlegrounds, arena, instances, raids, quests, etc.)
and most of the fun starts when you hit 60...

Funny, that's when I usually became bored and started a new character... *strokes chin*
Now the top is 70 and I havn't even made it there yet :<

I had a great year being lvl 60. I was raiding with one of the best guilds on the server (eventually we killed 5 Naxx bosses). I just hate the leveling.
Now the raiding has become less attractive (in my opinion) in TBC.
Edit: yay, i'm getting a Naxxramas raid together! :D Should be fun.

Do people still do any of the lvl 60 instances anymore? Aside from the Ramparts? I tried to get a group for Scholomance from lvl59 to lvl66 and couldn't get more than two people interested. Freakin warlock epic mount is pretty much impossible to do now, no one wants to run that crap anymore. Ah well.

DM, don't you have any friends who want to help you out with a 300G epic mount? Also, tell them that the quest to summon and kill it is really fun. ;) Or ask 1 or 2 lvl 70s, they should be able to solo/duo it.
But I think they still do them on my server.

I am (or was) in a guild made up of about 30 or 40 lvl70's, and they are sort of friends, but most are too lazy to go back and do any of the old stuff (because they've been playing the game forever and have done the warlock quest like 100 times). They play the arenas, grind for rep, run the heroic dungeons now and then.

You could try explaining your plight on the official WoW forums.
Just go to the board for whatever realm you play on and ask if there's anybody interested in helping with the quest.
I've probably done the Warlock and Paladin Epic quests 15 times apiece. If you're on Stonemaul I'd help, if you're on Illidan I can pull some strings with friends, but I'm guessing you're somewhere else.

I'm on Dragonmaw, but I'm not actually playing right now anyway. I was wondering, has anyone here ever sold or tried to sell their WoW account? I never really thought about it, but I've heard of some people getting like $500-$1000 for their account....which is just insane. But besides the money, it'd be nice to sort of, I dunno, get rid of it, heh. Although sometimes I do like to come back to play, if I could get a good offer for it, it'd be hard to pass up.

I just noticed a nice little feature.
When you give an inactive friend (who already had a WoW account) a TBC trial and that friend pays again for at least 1 month, you get a free month. So basically 2 can play for the price of 1.
I quit, but my brother still plays.
So when my brother almost needs to pay for another month, he'll give me a TBC trial and after that I'll pay for another month of vanilla WoW. He'll get a free month. We'll just share the costs.
I'll spend my month searching for pets and mounts. :) And boosting my lvl 60 dps.

So what do you think of the newly announced expansion?
It sounds pretty cool.. I've actually been telling people for years that they should re do Azeroth, I just didn't think it'd affect lower levels too. I was thinking more of a 'heroic' azeroth for future end gamers.. but the idea in the expansion is much better.
I can hardly get through Azeroth these days because the quests are all spread out and inefficient compared to outland and northrend.

Now that you mention it, I think I told somebody they should allow flying in Azeroth. Then he replied it was impossible, they'd have to remake the whole continent. I think I said 'why not?'
But the Worgen is where I really shine. I've wanted it as a playable race before TBC. :D
Btw I don't really like how the new world is just the old world... WITH LAVA.
http://www-tc.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/volcano/images/anat_lava.jpg
It's cheap and it ruins the environment.
Deathwing is cool though. Made me grin so hard when they mentioned him.
Oh, 1 thing I realized: WoW free trials have never made so much sense for people who have quit. Everybody gets the new environments (WITH LAVA!). It will also be fun to roll a Gnome priest.
This made me activate my wow account again, i realized i forgot most of everything so i said fuck it, starting over as alliance human warrior on executus. I only own TBC, not WotLK.

Btw I don't really like how the new world is just the old world... WITH LAVA.
It sounds like quite a bit more than that to me...
Desolace is fertile, various things (charred vale, warsong lumber camp, Zoram Strand horde camp) have progressed in time, Azshara is apparently being changed quite a bit to accommodate goblins and such, Wetlands has been "lost" (I believe that's how they put it), a number of camps and outposts have been destroyed, a few territories have been lost and gained on each side, yada yada etc.
Plus the new areas (Hyjal, etc)...
Plus... I dunno... stuff..
Anyways I'm quite excited.

My characters are technically on Moonrunner... Horde side. But it's a terrible, terrible server, and since I have a habit of starting a new toon with each expansion, I may switch to alliance side, or to a different server altogether.
I don't know if I'll have time to play when the expansion comes out, though I can see myself buying it (the inevitable collector's edition... To go with the other 3 collector's editions)... And I'm sure I'll reactivate my account somewheres down the line...
