Let me start off by saying 'wow'.

I'm a huge MGS fan. I played through the first one 3 times, and consider it one of my favourite games of all time. MGS2 was great, but didnt quite live up to my expectations. After reading reviews on MGS3, I was very optimistic, but with how much I've been loving San Andreas lately, something kept telling me I was set for a disappointment.

Well, I'm not disappointed. This game is simply amazing. Visually, I look at the total package (modelling, lighting, textures, art, cinematics) and would go as far as saying that this could be the nicest looking game this gen. The whole experience grabs you by the neck right from the beginning and sucks you into the whole MGS world.

The gameplay is solid, and insanely deep. You can do so many different things in the same situation, it's nuts. Wear the proper camo, lie down in the tall grass, and watch (in first person, no more than 6 ft. away from you) a guard walk slowly past you as if you were never there. Or find a nice little spot to lie down, and observe the guards from a distance with your goggles. Pull out the directional mic "gun" and listen in on their conversations. Pull out your silenced pistol and take one of them out and watch the hilarity ensue.

The characters are great, the boss battles are fantastic (especially the one I'm currently working on...it's like nothing you've ever played before, guarunteed) and the gameplay fits like a glove.

I'm only about 7 hours in, but it seems like I've done so much. Any game that has you silent, hoping no one will hear you as if you were in the game yourself is doing something right. The game will suck you in, and take you for a joyride. And I'm only getting started.

I rented this game this past weekend and it is now up there for one of my favorites.
I'm about 4-5 hours into the game. I just finished the battle with The Fear and...wow. Just wow.
Which boss are you one?

I've never been into any previous MGS games....but for some reason I want this one alot.

Which raises a question...do you have to know the previous story for this game? For it to make sense? Or can i pick it up and play and enjoy? Im not saying I wont enjoy...because somehow, Im getting this game. And playing, and learning, loving and caring.

From what I have played, you don't really NEED toplay the others before but the story feels much more, hmm, full or something like that? But so far nothing really has been needed from the other stories. Somethings though are fun to know and bring up in this game.

Well playing the first two would really help you understand fully the situation with Boss and Ocelot and all that good stuff back during the Cold War. If you really want the game to have a full impact on you, I suggest you play the first two before playing this one.

Does anyone know if it's going to be ported to the Xbox?

I would bet on it. Of course Konami doesn't say anything right now.

I wont give too much away, but 'the End' is one of the best boss fights of all time...

This game has already crapped all over MGS2 and Im probably only about 50% finished. Depending on how the rest of the game goes, I can see this surpassing MGS. I hear the last few hours are absolutely spectacular. :beat:

Awesome. I've never been a huge MGS fan (mostly 'cause I suck at stealth; I have to replay sections over and over and over and over again to get the pattern right), but I have enjoyed the past two games. I'll probably rent the game at some point...

I pre-ordered this game (5 dollar deposit) and ran out of money by the time it was released. ... d'ooooh. I still don't have it.

I saw one of my friends play the boss with the Jetpack. It was amazing.

The spin trick to make Snake puke is kind of weird, though.

I got the game...

It's much much more stealthy than past MGS games, but it's also extremely frustrating (chose to play on Normal first time through)... I pay as close attention to what the guards are doing, yet still when I try to make a move I get seen or heard, sometimes by a guard hidden around a corner that I didn't even know was there (due to the natural jungle setting ;o)...

Then once I get seen it seems like no matter where I hide, they find me...

Does anybody else suck at this game this much? I've played MGS1 and 2 multiple times (almost all the dogtags in the game all the way up through extreme difficulty)... It makes me sad...

Not that the game's bad, I like that you gotta be more stealthy, basically what I'm trying to say here is... Am I missing something? Is there a magically better way to observe the guards than through a 99% obscured view of hiding in weeds?

You do know that you have a sonar, right?

Thermal goggles are also extremely helpful, you can find them in a rotted tree trunk during the virtuous mission, and then again in a locker in the red brick building during operation snake eater. Also don't forget about your other tools, like smoke grenades if you get caught, and stuff.

Yeah I saw the sonar and stuff, the thing is it says it drains batteries...

I have a weird thing with games where if supply on something is listed as limited, I like... Don't use it... Unless I think it's absolutely necesary... But I guess I'll try to use them next time I play...

I must say, I love this game.

The boss fight against The End scares the crap out of me. It's so calm and relaxed but at the same time, so insanely frightening.

At least I think so.

Yes, batteries, everything you have that uses some kind of eletronic power uses batteries. But they recharge when you put them away, so its all good. I don't leave my sonar on, I just flip it on to see positions of enemies I can't see with my thermal goggles. Don't forget also that you have a map in the menu, I believe it shows enemy locations after you find each enemy, but I'm not sure cause I used it only once (for the battle against The End).

On another note, The Sorrow really freaked me out... and not just during the battle against him. Be sure to make use of those "Press R1" moments during some cutscenes. Crazy, crazy bastard.

The Ladder is the hardest boss in the game, hell it even sings while it owns you!

Just beat the game about 20 minutes ago, the ending was awsome like all of the Metal Gear series. The MGS series is one that has a lot of replay value. For example, I didn't find out until the last few boss battles, that if you take their stamina down instead of life you get their uniform to wear as camoflauge.

It is hard for me to say which one I liked the most.

I think the Metal Gear series would make absolutey incredible movies, and I heard a rumor that they are making a movie, is that true?
