A while back, valve stated that shortly after the release of the game, there would be a surprise for thoes who are dissapointed that Counter-Strike was the only multiplayer included in HL2....

nothing more was said on the subject, and people started to dismiss it saying it was nothing or some said it was Half-Life source was the surprise...

Well now according to planet half-life, along with the new patch to fix the stuttering problem... they also said...
"Next week we will be releasing the Source SDK, along with a surprise for the community."

:) im REALLY hoping for either an official HL2 multiplayer, or Team Fortress.

but i have a feeling i'll be dissapointed by the 'surprise' lol.

*waits for next week to come...*

regular multiplayer seems a bit too obvious, I'm hoping for a team fortress... back in the day when I attempted to play HL online, I prefered TFC to the normal deathmatch...

Also apparently that stuttering patch was already released... On the steam support forums, some people are saying it fixed their problems completely, others are saying it actually messed up the game more (some people who weren't having problems before are now having problems), and still more (me included) can't find a place to download the patch, and steam won't auto-update it...

I've never heard a response quite like that before. Those were the days."When do you think artificial intelligence will replace lawyers" stuttering patch was already released ?
I understand.What is

yea thats what i mean, they said this along with the release of the patch, patch just came out.

But a HL2 multiplayer would be quite a bit different from the original HL multiplayer. because of the gravity gun and all the things it brings, we'll get that either way cuz of mods. but its been something people have been wanting.
would make for some interesting gameplay with the gravity gun.

and i really want TeamFortress, good times playin that back on the original Quake.

Actually, the patch did come out. If you checked the Monitor on Steam, it shows 100% for CS:S and HL2. It was just a really really small patch.

What monitor on steam? I really don't know how steam works...

Alls I know is I didn't see any update thing ever at all and my game still skips...

Open Steam, at the menu if you see Monitor click on it, otherwise in lower right corner, right click the steam icon and choose Monitor.

Or if you need proof the patch did come out, go to www.steampowered.com/status and the little dip in the grey line at the bottom is the time the patch came out.

I'll bet the surprise is HL2 multiplayer of some sort. What else could it be?

And about that patch thing, I suppouse Jonbo is right, but whatever the case it didnt fix my problems, but like ive said, I havent had the problem very bad, it happens from time to time, but its fairly intermittent, and from what I heard not near as bad as some people are experiencing it.

well a HL2 official multiplayer would make sense because valve said a while back, the suprise is for people upset counter-strike was the only multiplayer.
so what people who are upset about that want, is a HL2 multiplayer.

and as long as they had team deathmatch, i guess it would be ok to play around in. i'd be shocked and pleasently surprised if they put a Capture the flag mode in. (cuz i dont like Death match much)

but honestly, Day of Defeat: Source is a STRONG possibility. they said they game would be released around december. and if thats the case im hoping the surprise is that its FREE, like all other mods will be.

They've also mentioned the Team Fortress, saying that its still coming and they're working on it.

thoes are my main 3 guesses.
some say its just going to be new material for Counter-Strike. which i wouldnt be really happy or surprised about.
im just hoping the surprise is something good for multiplayer, id be dissapointed with anything else. unless its an expanstion to the game. lol. or SURPRISE! HL3 ! lol

The reason you didn't really notice the patch yesterday was because it added a command to the console in game and didn't make any major changes to it so it was an insanely small patch basically.

SDK has been released along with HL2's official Deathmatch mode.

http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news

Shame they couldnt of had that done a couple weeks earlier, a lot of the games 9.5 scores woulda easily turned into 10's.
And even tho its only DM, this makes TDM and CTF mods REALLY easy to make now.

I've played around in it a bit. Quite a few servers are laggy right now but still playable.

First impressions. 2 levels. Both are fun. Nice to pickup whatever you want (except cars...yet ;) ) and chuck it at people. It's fun for a quick DM but the mods I can't wait for now.

Getting it downloaded right now. They really shouldn't have waited to bring it out like you said. The only reason they got a lower score and not perfects was because of the lack of a HL2 multi mode.

Ive played it a little bit. I definatley noticed some lag problems, but the game is still mad fun...I love on that city map, when you go upstairs and get the rocket launcher, then just launch at the pitiful people down below...awsome. Maps could be a little bigger though...

from what i've read, it should be thought of as a beta really.

its going to get patches to fix a lot of issues, and bigger and more maps will come out.
im really waiting for servers to get setup correctly to cut out the lag before giving it a real go.

I don't look at this as a beta. It works. There are a few kinks in it but its not a beta. It's like calling Half Life 2 a beta because of the fact that some people have issues. Or calling CS:Source a beta because some people have problems.

CS Source had its beta. its first release and was tested.

Half Life 2 was tested Heavily in its beta form.

this is the Deathmatch's first release, comes with a couple test maps and thats it. Yea, id defently consider it to be more of a beta release then a final release.

And why does it sound like you think thats a bad thing? Beta or test releases are very good, most of the time it means they're open to suggestions and tweaks from people which make the game better.
