Yeah, my sister's exboyfriend is over in iraq right now. He's told some stories that are similar to this.
It's not like we don't know this happens all the time. If an insurgent fighter came across an injured american marine, he'd probably cap him or do the hostage thing.
anyway, what an idiot. Doing **** like that when there's a camera man there. ahh

Just as sick as that movie where Swedish soldiers were killing dogs. And not just a few, it was a sport to them.
Make love, not war! :p

Is anyone in favor of executing the out of control soldier?

these are the same people who burn bodies of american contractors, who strap bombs to babies and who raise white flags to lure soldiers into an ambush... I guess i dont have the same kinda pity for the iraqi soldiers as the rest of you
However, this soldier should still face court marshall

It doesn't matter. You and I have no idea what that Soldier had done. Possibly nothing. And no matter what he did do, his judgement was not in the hands of that Marine. He took justice into his own hands, and from the transcript:
One Marine is heard shouting: "He's faking he's dead."
There was another shout: "He's breathing."
Gunfire rang out, and one Marine said: "He's dead now."
He showed no remorse. He deserves whatever he gets (save the death penalty, in my opinion).

Wow, aren't we so quick to pass jusdgement when we have no idea the situation that the soldier was in.
This is not a traditional war. Our enemies are not dressed in easy to see uniforms and marching in columns. They are in plain clothes, playing dead, boobytrapping their own comrades corpses, etc. In fact one of that soldier's fellow platoon mates was killed by an insurgent who played dead, then popped up and started shooting. Add to this the likelihood that the soldier had probably been foghting for several days straight on very little sleep. The really sad part is that this soldier is going to go down hard for this so that everyone who has no clue what the hell is going on over there can feel better about themselves.
If I was in Iraq? I'd put an extra bullet in anyone's head in the combat area who I didn't personally see get hit with a killshot. You don't know if they are faking or really dead and it has already cost American lives. If there is outrage over such things as this, its the insurgents themselves who are to blame. If you don't want to get shot when legitimately hurt, tell your friends to stop pretending and using such guerilla tactics.
They have brought it on themselves. "They have sown the wind, and in turn will reap the whirlwind."
