You've seen those guys in the mall who are selling NES games built into a controller that looks exactly like the n64 controller? I was wondering how they could get away with that crap... I guess they can't

Nintendo is cracking down on illegal game sales stateside.

A judge in America has ordered a temporary banning order on unlicensed and unsanctioned Nintendo-branded products in malls and kiosks in the Seattle area.

The pirates are selling unlicensed products with counterfeited seals of approval, the products take the form of joysticks with Nintendo games built into their hardware which are then plugged directly into the TV. The cheeky pirates are also said to have made direct rip-offs of the N64 controller. The scallywags.

It is alleged that these counterfeit products have come into the United States from Chinese pirates, this small distribution network of malls and kiosks in the Seattle area is suspected to be only a small part of a much larger operation.

It is interesting to note that Nintendo releases very few products in China due to such high levels of piracy in the country. In fact, the iQUE -an N64 controller that plugs directly into the TV to play downloaded N64 games was designed by Nintendo specifically with the Chinese market in mind.

Currently the damages being sued for are unspecified, but with defamation, degradation of consumer/manufacturer relations and lost revenue, the early estimates are in the millions.

Beat em down yeah!

I just saw a stand with those just yesterday in my local mall! I didn't know they were fake but I figured they were.

I worked at one of those stands... But in my defense, it was run by my brother's friend, who's family runs a computer store... And all he said was he was opening up a stand, so I figured it'd sell computer accesories or something... :sneaky:

It only lasted a couple months... And just recently in almost the exact same spot, a new stand selling them opened up :p apparently they didn't even know we were there before them, and did miserably...

But they're everywhere... at most (if not all) major malls in the area... Went down to Richmond one time, went to this outdoor mall thing... Sure enough, there was a stand selling those things...

Those games are fun, though...

I should get one before they 'Nintendo' my stand...

Yep...ive seen them as well. It never really occoured to me that they might be counterfit, yet it makes perfect sense...not like we've heard anything offically from nintendo on those things...

The scallywags.

That was thr greatest part of the whole thing. I haven't seen these, but then again, I haven't been to a mall in awhile.

It'll last a week or so before it breaks...

I saw one of those last week, and I had to glance back at it because I saw the N64 controller, but I didn't see an N64, so I was wondering what it was. I hope they get busted.

I've seen those in the malls here in Missouri also. Never stopped to look at them but always thought the idea was cool. What I am wondering is, are the video game controller things that they sell at Wal-Mart legitimate? I mean, I guess with such a big company they would have caught on to by now. But I'm just curious.

What the ****. Ok, they're selling these N64 controllers in front of my campus, and at my mall! Yesterday when I saw it, I talked to the guy, and I asked him if he knew his employer was getting sued. He had no idea.
